Samurai Maiden, which came under fire for having a horrendous English localization that talked about “boomers” and “gen Z” when the original Japanese version was merely talking about the modern day school system, recently released an official patch that fixed the dialogue, a rather rare occurrence that might have some better respecting Western developers for actually listening.
Some examples of the former cringeworthy dialogue compared with the original Japanese version:
An update was provided through Steam noting the English text was changed for certain parts of the game:
Screenshots showing off some of the now changed English text:
Many will question why the English localization refused to translate the source material in the first place, though, it seems such absurd changes are sadly now a common part of the Western entertainment industry.
A step in the right direction, but it’s still censored s♥♥t even with this change.
Wake me up when these wokealization “people” start losing their jobs over these blatant and malicious changes.
How is that ever going to happen when half the retards who say they don’t support censorship get the game anyway?
I hate censorship as much as the next person, so don’t take this the wrong way. The censorship only occurred when the game is paused, I honestly believe this is a case of ‘the devs were coerced into doing it’.
We harp on sony for randomly blocking japanese games with no clear guidline, but steam does that as well. We are also dealing with people who block payment processors and kick services off of servers to get what they want.
“Only”.
And that doesn’t really change anything, devs that bend the knee are lame. But yes, payment processors are becoming an even bigger issue than they already are, needs to be some international laws preventing them from affecting commerce. Their entire role should only be just that, payment processing, they shouldn’t be legally allowed to dictate what is allowed to be sold or not, that should be up to each country’s legal system.
Aye, but when the choice is ‘censor or never see the light of day’ there is a degree of sympathy. Whether or not to buy is another matter, you’re fucked either way. If you buy it the suits go ‘see, they’ll buy it even if censored’, if you don’t buy the suits go ‘see, there’s no demand for this, let’s target a wider audience’.
For myself, it looks like ass on the switch and I won’t give steam a dime, so not being on GoG decides it for me.
GoG are pretty censor happy themselves.
The result is important. If the result is unsatisfactory, I am not interested in any excuses.
Not sure what your point about Sony and Steam is. I’m boycotting Sony, Valve, Nintendo and Microsoft, because they all suck.
If you are unsatisfied, don’t finance them. If more gamers were disciplined enough for this the gaming industry would be in better shape.
Sony and valve both block japanese games at random with no clear guidlines, this is a scare tactic. The japanese think ‘it’s a culture thing we can’t understand’ then hire people with ‘the right politics’ and their entertainment starts looking more and more like the sewage coming out of hollywood.
My point is that there is a concerted effort to hijack japanese entertainment involving the most powerful entities in the business. Releasing on PC without going on steam kills your sales because too much of the market is unwilling to use multiple platforms. Releasing anything AAA quality means going with sony because it will look like s♥♥t on the switch, though switch gets ports years later. Basically, the gaming industry is completely fucked.
What in the world do you play then? Chess?
Funnily enough, I do play Chess puzzles nearly every day.
I emulate old games on my Linux PC. Currently exploring the Saturn library.
So just because there’s worse censorship out there people should ignore this? The devs made a choice. They weren’t coerced into butchering their product.
Don’t make excuses for censorship you cuck.
I never did, I never suggested buying it. Don’t confuse excuse with explanation. My point is to remind people who the real enemy is.
They won’t, the ones who translate entertainment are literal bottom of the barrel translators or failed authors, many times they don’t even understand the source language, they just mtl and “edit” (rewrite)
tiny step forward but there needs to be prevention from these localization errors happening in the first place.
Until people start losing their careers over it, it will never stop…
Even better. Start going after these motherfuckers. Who cares if they get Doxxed to hell and back.
This is what should happen because the process of doing a mistranslating on purpose is literally doing your job wrong and should be a fireable offense.
Why did anyone ever think the cringe localization was okay? That’s why I don’t pay for localized stuff. You just never know what they f♥♥k with.
Interesting. I guess the sales for this garbage aren’t that good and they were actually forced to try to bait people into buying it by at least removing some of the cringe.
I’m willing to bet the moron was probably triggered about “sexualizing minors” and thought that erasing talking about being in high school was somehow dodging around the issue.
could be an effort to dodge steam’s shitty filters, retarded gymnastics make perfect sense when they do run circles around a retarded system
in fact, if they dodged the first pass and that’s all that matters, smuggling in the fix afterwards makes steamcucks even more hilarious
I love sexualizing children! ❤
