Neptunia × Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars, a title where the women of Neptunia meet with the Senran Kagura kunoichi, recently released in English and the developer has once again referenced the currently ongoing “culture war”, the large-breasted Vert professing hatred for those that label fictional strong men and beautiful women as sexist, due to the “restrictions” that surface as a result of those opinions (or “lies”, as she calls them).
Screenshots of the scene from the game that points out this censorship “craze” that is so abundant in the video game industry:
Vert makes references to the woke degeneracy that has spread across all forms of entertainment that so often labels strong men and beautiful women in fiction as sexist or “catering to the male fantasy”, the same individuals also being more than eager to call any and everything “offensive”, “transphobic”, or other buzzwords.
Both the Neptunia and Senran Kagura franchises have been previously subjected to censorship as part of Sony’s efforts to “protect the children“, despite the existence of rating systems, and for the sake of the “Me Too Movement“.
The English translation of Neptunia games often take liberties to be meta, make “jokes”, or make indirect remarks about the current state of the game industry, so such commentary is likely not surprising to hardcore fans of the “disturbingly sexualized” series.
Wall-breaking moments from past Neptunia titles:
Neptunia × Senran Kagura: Ninja Wars launched in the West for the PS4 on October 26th.
Restrictions are born from both the opinions of others and the terrible method of trying to please every single person imaginable.
I don’t understand the rampant censorship towards anime and japanese media to appeal to those who are either not use to its contents, have never actually been interesting in these types of titles or both. If it’s just for a few nickel and dimes then that can’t be true as they usually lose money when they do restrict and censor games to appease general masses.
It’s basically any content that appeals to men. This is the underlying agenda of Sony’s censorship board.
“It’s basically any content that appeals to men. This is the underlying agenda of Sony’s censorship board.”
It’s because of bullshit like this that soon, the ONLY anime-type games that will feature fan service anymore will be H-games, such as the ones you can buy and download on dlsite!
“Ugh… She’s so sexy, but I can’t stop eating. I’m depressed because I eat and I eat because I’m depressed. Men put all these unrealistic expectations on me. They are reason I am depressed. I must fight these sexy video game women. How dare they promote fatphobia”. -Feminists
Mfw much of this appeals to women too, considering those men people keep trying to appeal to are creepy rapists.
big anime titties = BAD
tranny getting buttfucked = GOOD
Well, also Sony is ran by old men who have batty bitchy old witches that do not like anything that allows men to break away from working and making money.
I’m worried they think that those loud minority on social media represent the majority of their customers. Otherwise i don’t see any benefit of catering to them, especially long term wise is very damaging.
Thing is nobody likes to deal with criticism and the best way to deal with it is to be as neutral as possible with it. Problem with these companies is that they want to make literally everybody happy not because they genuinely care about the customer base but because the fewer people they piss off the more people willing to spend money on the product which in the vacuum is fine.
This goes off the rails when you see the foolish idea that every single type of person has to like this one thing when in reality everyone can’t like everything.
“I’m worried they think that those loud minority on social media represent the majority of their customers. Otherwise i don’t see any benefit of catering to them, especially long term wise is very damaging.”
Well, what *I* am worried about is that, in one generation, the Loud Minority will become the Loud Majority! This is because the Woke are brainwashing the current crop of children with such bullshit as “Critical Race Theory”!
CRT is code for “whites being afraid of anything darker than them”
CRT is code for “whites genocide”, globohomo bot.
@09:16 Proving my point.
Shouldn’t you be burning down a Star Bucks?
“I don’t understand the rampant censorship towards anime and japanese media to appeal to those who are either not use to its contents, have never actually been interesting in these types of titles or both.” Imperialism, the answer is imperialism. They want everyone to be like them and if not… then they and their culture are not allowed to exist.
The restrictions are born from an agenda funded by the fourth branch of government, Larry Fink, and assorted other parties.
Everything has a pattern go to where the money is infiltrate it change it to fit a nonsense message then move on to the next big thing.
In order of how I’ve seen the pettern first tv shows then movies followed by comics after that cartoons then video games and now it’s anime and manga.
Thats rich coming from a game with two franchises that were vastly toned down because of a woke company.
Devs would profit if they showed Playstation (and X-Box) the middle finger and switched to Nintendo and PC only. But no, gotta suck woke dick instead.
Yep, we’ll never know just how much was compromised for a crossover like this because it’s on sony garbage.
110% censored in the design process, no creative freedom allowed on gaystation.
I doubt that we will never know. We just need to compare both franchises and what they offered to what they are today or turned into.
Nintendo has been just as bad in the past with censorship. Never forget missing vagina bones. Hell, even Steam censors s♥♥t if the girl is in a school uniform and looks mildy young.
Key part “in the past”. Nintendo doesnt censor third party ever since the Switch hit the scene (first party is a different story and consoles have regulations ever since the US crash happened). Whatever censorship and ban happens regarding third party, thats not Nintendos doing but rather the devs themselves or the countries (on their own).
Key word “(in the) past”. Currently, Nintendo is the only one that does not restrict third party at all……..not counting the usual standard regulations that exist on consoles ever since the US crash.
Nintendo’s first party is a different story but their third party technically can do whatever. The censorship or even outright ban that still happens on their current system is not because of Nintendo, is because of the devs or countries themselves.
Key part is “in the past”. Nintendo’s third party have been safe all around. Whatever third party gets censored is not because of Nintendo but outside factors like lazy ass devs porting the game to the Switch but the censored version or Germany outright screwing whole Europe (Dying Light) or even devs wanting to go the safe route, when they dont need to (Hentai vs Evil)……..or something like that.
I have no idea how it is with steam since i dont use it. But you’ve stated yourself that Nintendo was just as bad…………in the past. They certainly are not now. Outside of their first party stuff, they dont censor anything. Whatever third party gets censored, is not because of Nintendo, its mainly because out everything else.
Dying Light is because of Germany, FE was because of the west (and sadly Nintendo was just lazy enough to take the western Wii-U version instead of the japanese one for the Switch), Arc of Alchemist was because of Sony and lazy ass devs, i bet the upcoming Death End Request 2 for the Switch (supposedly) will be the woke PS4 version because devs will be lazy once again, I could bet anything that Hentai vs Evil was not because of Nintendo but the devs wanted to go the safe route and didnt go full nude like the PC version (if it wasnt censored on there yet), etc.
So Nintendo’s third party is pretty much safe today.
Paid digital distribution itself is inherently woke and SJW.
Imagine saying pirating everything is only something cis white hetero males do.
To be fair, the one denouncing it was Vert, not a Senran Kagura character.
I don’t care if they criticize the SJWs. Content alteration is a form of censorship itself. Localization is censorship. Translators’ job is to translate, not to rewrite.
But nothing was altered with the girls?
Some things aren’t translatable, though. Sayings, idioms, historical and mythological references. Then you have the written language itself, which can be written using multiple alphabets and whose structure and contents are entirely different from Germanic & Latin languages. There are just some things that cannot translate directly, and there may not be enough time/money/people/space to recode the game with more memory for the explanation for what it being talked about. Hell, a ton of space was dedicated to the Persona 3 strategy guide just to explain all the Japanese-y stuff in the game such as honorifics and explanations for the school holidays.
What you REALLY want to criticize are the maggot translators who decide to instill their own opinions and politics where such didn’t exist previously, and/or out-right remove content that they feel is “harmful to fictional characters”.
This is true, but it’s not that often that some things won’t have anything similar to interpret as. I’ve seen quite a few puns that actually nearly translate to 1:1 for example, and other times some phrases make zero sense. But still, instead of trying to add flair to the writing (usually a bad idea that results in inserting meme garbage or replacing culture/intent) you can always just opt to explain things in more straightforward terms instead of unnecessary imagery and romanticization.
Another issue that you didn’t mention is how a lot of localization companies often exaggerate or play down character traits/behaviors, which Neptunia’s are guilty of. There are some scenes that are meant to be taken more seriously, even though the games are usually more light hearted, yet they keep having the characters cracking jokes and turning up the wacky archetype s♥♥t to 11/10 when in those scenes they actually dial it back a bit most of the time.
They did the same s♥♥t in NieR automata by making 2B a complete bitch, whereas in the original Japanese she is much more calm and analytical in most situations. They sited because they didn’t want people to “think she was robotic, xDDDD” (not even joking) and lacking in emotion. Any non-retard would be able to see she still showed emotion in the original Jap dub + script. You’d have to be so lacking in social experience to not see that, which honestly isn’t really surprising because these kinds of changes are made for westerners, usually ironic weebs/zoomers who are so stunted mentally + socially they can only repeat slang/memes in their daily interactions if they get over their crippling social anxiety enough to temporarily talk to a stranger.
That’s why a lot of them praise localization because it waters down anything even remotely abrasive to them and their beliefs to make it easier to swallow, which is why a lot of scenes effectively become fanfiction because they add in western political s♥♥t, memes, culture references, etc. Might as well go full 4kids at this point and change all Japanese words and names to western ones so those poor little babies don’t have to even hear something as “problematic” as Japanese culture, since they seem to hate it so much.
s♥♥t really is baffling. “Ah yes, let me buy and watch/play this Japanese product, but with all the Japanese aspects removed from it.” Just go watch American sitcoms and trashy long running cable drama/fiction shows at that point like GoT, they’re ruining s♥♥t for the rest of us..
Exactly, my man. Localization is a tool; it can be used correctly to convey the meaning and spirit of the original work, when being autistically literal wouldn’t sound right, or it can be misused to change things. Blaming localization for the leftist and jewish freaks ruining anime and games is like blaming guns for killing people.
That may betrue that localization is a tool, but that is not why the older generation got into anime and japanese games in the first place. IT provided a different mindset, different culture and different values. IT all seemed fresh. Sure people may not always understood the idioms, but it’s something new. I don’t support localization because 99% of the time, it ends up failing and becoming a rewrite. The best localization I’ve ever seen was when there was a direct equivalent for idioms or gags that still kept cultural reference and morals of Japan that would keep the though process foreign to westerners but provide an understanding. And I believe there are a lot of Japanese and Chinese idioms that were brought over long ago and made into English literature. Tzu’s art of war, Confucius and stuff about a boat without water goes no where. Etc. Things like that have been with English culture for so long that’s it’s now part of our culture. But what do translators opt for? Pop culture references, that are inherently so far away from Japanese culture and language that a normal Japanese person wouldn’t even say. You can’t sacrifice immersion for getting a meaning across to a western audience, because then it will fail on both fronts. Besides I don’t see the defending of heavy localization when a while ago game translators were bringing stuff over and not having any trouble. I wont’ outright deny localization but 99% of it is garbage, so let me keep my skepticism.
But we all know people kill people with guns – the problem is all the trigger-happy bigots thunk “gun control” meana “they’re taking their guns away;” which is half-true because most if not all the gun owners are psychotic as f♥♥k and need any possible weapon removed within a 100-mile radius.
Empty rhethoric from an empty headed subhuman leftist mutt
Meanwhile in reality land half of self-denominated “liberals” (which they are not, they are leftists) are on head meds or with diagnosed mental illnesses
@08:02 moralistic fallacy
@18:07 And yet more ad hominem fallacy.
>most if not all the gun owners are psychotic as f♥♥k

While that’s true and the Neptunia series is often known to address industry issues, I find these statements a tad bit hypocritical when they are in a censored game conforming to Sony’s global standards. Rather than meaningless rhetoric, they should’ve released an uncensored version on Switch and PC.
Seeing as most japs don’t even have the balls to confront the censorship destroying their culture. It not surprising. If anything, the westernization and censorship is steadily getting them to accept such things. Hence why their games aren’t even being made for them anymore but the west and they still eat it up while watching their industry kill itself. Tales of Arise selling 200k copies in japan in a week, more than proves this.
Is it the duty of the Japanese to fight censorship of their games elsewhere on the planet?
If a game arrives censored in your country, it is the fault of the people of your country, not theirs. If the people who are anti-censorship don’t protest and the pro-censorship people protest, even violently, what do you want them to do?
All right, they are in the minority and don’t even buy these games, but don’t forget one thing, history shows that tyranny and censorship is always imposed by a minority against the majority, and that freedom doesn’t come for free, you have to fight for it.
I am not saying that Japan is a perfect country, they also have these censorship groups, but the situation there is not endemic and out of control as it is in the West. And besides, it was the West that created all this and imposed it all over the world.
@06:46 you are an incel that looks for reasons to be upset by making up fake conspiracies. If anything, the trend in Japan has been less censorship of games when not counting Sony interactive, which is located in California.
@7:58 I’d say you’d be right but I don’t think you follow Japanese gaming industry’s stock market and how Japanese companies are slowly getting their share in the stockmarket bought up. There is a take over going around very slowly. Yes Japan wants to keep freedom of artistic expression but that gets harder when, the excecutives whose focus on money, end up having their payroll being pressured by their new foreign bosses on the board of directors and shareholders.
Kadokawa is being bought up by Tencent. Namco Bandai fell recently But let’s follow the money trail. WHere is it? Sony has it’s own game companies, and I believe they have shares of Namco Bandai. Same thing with Altas which used to be owned by sega, but then sold it’s shares to another company. Tencent has some branch companies I don’t remember the name but they also are buying up stock all over the place. Also it’s not about just video games. The more financial power a foreign entity seizes via stockmarket and share holders the more influence they get. Now don’t calling me a conspiracy theorist, because these are things that happen daily and been happening for decades. The issue is the financial strike back. One thing to think about. The Japanese hammer the nail that sticks out. Don’t make big waves of disturbance. So if resisting causes more trouble than keeling, then keeling over would be chosen. It’s the “read the atmosphere in the room” type situation. And how does one attack a people’s culture? The best way is their source of survival, living or financial resources. That’s where it happens. Again mentality may be less censorship of games, but through financial control, and tweaks in culture mentality bit by bit the merits and demerits of resistance begin to change. Also the effectiveness of resisting. Japan has a few paradoxal problems. THey have a mentality to resist, but the japanese pop culture has become a global hit. Money is coming in. Japan is also recovering from a 30 year recession. They’ve left too many holes while trying to prevent a country collapse. The increase of immigrants to cover birthrate, etc. There has been a culture collapse going on for quite awhile. It’s just that it doesn’t happen in every facet of society immediately. It happens in different parts. There is religious, economical, social (such as personal relations), and media. Japan is in a tough spot due to the culmination of things happening long before most of us were born. Anime and games were just late to the game. Though parts Japan is making an effort on trying to resist censorship, those parts aren’t having much effectiveness. I suggest anyone interested to look at Japan’s financial, societal and media trends that happened from the 1960s to 2021. You’ll find some interesting things.
Nice message
Sure would be a shame if it was put in the same game where you ditched the platforms that give you more leniency in favor of swallowing the load of the one censoring so hard, it basically killed one of the two franchises involved
Making the whole thing a hypocritefest, yeah, sure would be a shame
