Japanese Apex Legends Players Banned for Saying “Nigero”

EA, the publisher of Apex Legends, has tried to take their awful reputation to new heights as they have decided to temporarily ban some Japanese players for saying “nigero”, despite it being an actual Japanese word and not the racial slur (“nigger”) the publisher wishes it was.

Screenshots were shared online of players being handed bans (a seven day ban in one instance) for saying and/or writing out the harmless “nigero“, which means “run away” in Japanese and would naturally be said rather frequently in an online game:

Sadly, incidents where people are banned for simply saying words that sound like racial slurs but aren’t actually is not that uncommon, as those saying the word “naga” (a fictional race) have been permanently banned from streaming platform Twitch.
