Evangelion Movie’s Voice Work “Almost Finished”

Seiyuu Megumi Ogata has updated Evangelion fans on the progress being made on the final installment of the Neon Genesis Evangelion film tetralogy, verifying that the dubbing work has nearly been completed, with only one character’s lines yet to be recorded.

The veteran seiyuu, who voices Shinji Ikari in the Evangelion franchise, said that she had recently begun recording her lines for the upcoming film. Ogata added that Shinji’s lines were being recorded after all other seiyuu had finished, implying that the dubbing work for the movie is almost done.

Ogata did say that the “voices” for the Evangelion units themselves have also not been recorded yet, although the non-verbal nature of the Eva units means that this should be a very quick process.

Given that the anime industry generally records voices after other aspects of production have been finished (something that often causes lip-syncing issues that can be noticeable for those accustomed to Western animation), the fact that only Shinji’s lines have yet to be fully recorded means that Khara may achieve the astonishing feat of delivering the film on the promised date of June 27th this year.
