The writer and director of Netflix’s Resident Evil reboot movie will supposedly “get back to the roots of the game”, a promise that was also previously made and (somewhat) delivered through Resident Evil 7.
The Netflix production was originally announced as a TV series but has since been confirmed to be a movie – Writer and Director Johannes Roberts explained that it is currently in active development and that the film will get back to the roots of the game:
“We are in active development of that at the moment. I pitched them a take, and they really loved it. So, we are just gearing up on that as we speak, really. I’m in the office all the time there. So, yeah, it’s great. It’s gonna be super scary. It’s super, super scary. And it’s just getting back to the roots of the game. I think, at the moment, I’m not really allowed to say much more than that. But it’s gonna be a lot of fun.”
The former series of Resident Evil movies starred Milla Jovovich and had great emphasis on action (in addition to great criticism), a far cry from the first few games in the franchise that instead focused on survival horror.
Robert’s remark will no doubt have some theorizing that the film might pay more attention to maintaining a terrifying atmosphere; but, given the track record when it comes to under-performing game to movie adaptations, others may have less than stellar expectations.

Judging from the spectacular Castlevania animated Netflix series? None? I was actually taken aback at just how faithful that show was to the games. It’s the best videogame adaptation made in the west ever for a reason.
The spectacular Castlevania series.. which inserted tons of anti-Christian overtones despite the Church having been pretty much badass and a positive source in the original game series? The spectacular adaptation that took one of Dracula’s loyal female vampire allies and turned her into a mouthpiece of “ugh, I hate all men!” stereotyped narratives?

The games were very very light on story. I don’t know where you got the idea that CV was a very “Christian” series
Let’s note the Belmonts wield consecrated and blessed weapons. The anti-Christian thing is pretty much uncalled for. Not cool. Some of the best weapons in the games are crosses and holy water. Julius Belmont summons a massive cross-shaped aura as a bomb to wipe all enemies!
Dracula being made a villain you can sympathize with is an interesting angle, but the breakdown was a but much.
Again, the series was pretty good, but tone the f♥♥k down the anti-Christian stuff, and make Dracula angrier. Villains are supposed to be scary, but with reasoning you can understand. A hero is supposed to be a paragon, and for the Belmonts, as I recall from the games, they were not ex-communicated from the church, rather, they were pretty much the church’s last line of defense against the devil in the mortal realm.
