Nippon Ichi Struggling to Pay Employees

Video game developer Nippon Ichi Software appears to be struggling to pay its employees after it began flogging stock in order to raise quick money.

Nippon Ichi Software has recently issued 375,000 new shares with the intention of quickly raising ¥573 million. The stocks are being sold in the form of warrants, which allow investors to buy stock at a fixed price until their expiration.

Perhaps rather worryingly, 65% of the money being raised will be used to pay employees, potentially raising concerns over whether the company is in dire financial straits. 30% of the money will be used to pay third-party contractors and the last 5% will be for internal investment.

Nippon Ichi Software hold a Guinness World Record for publishing the most strategy RPGs and is perhaps best-known for the Disgaea series. Some sources are speculating that the company is selling stocks in order to compensate for poor mobile game sales; the recent fiasco regarding Disgaea RPG possibly being related to their desperate need for money.
