Company Hawking Cans of “Heisei Air”

Companies have wasted no time taking advantage of the infrequent event that is the conclusion of an era, as cans of “Heisei air” are now being sold to gullible consumers.

Heso Production Co. are hawking the empty cans at ¥1,080 each, advertised to contain only the “air of Heisei” and a five-yen coin, which is described to be a good luck charm – producers are hoping to sell at least 1,000 cans.

Company president Minoru Inamoto stated, “Air is free of charge but we hope people will enjoy breathing the fresh air of Heisei after the new era comes, or just keep it as a memento.”

The cans are being “produced” in the village of Henari in Gifu (written using the same characters in “Heisei”) and can be procured at either a roadside station in the village or online – the new Reiwa era will descend upon Japan on May 1st.
