Tetsuya Nomura: “Negative Stories About The FFVII Remake Are Fake News!”

Square-Enix’s Tetsuya Nomura has sought to reassure fans that development of the Final Fantasy VII remake is not grossly behind schedule, despite internet rumors to the contrary.

In an interview with Famitsu, senior Square-Enix official Tetsuya Normura has denied rumors that development of the Final Fantasy VII remake was grossly behind schedule and had only recently started.

According to Nomura, comments about Kingdom Hearts III taking priority over Final Fantasy VII had been misinterpreted as admissions that development of the latter would only start in earnest after work on Kingdom Hearts III had been ended. Nomura, who had worked as the chief character designer on the original Final Fantasy VII, attempted to clarify the earlier comments:

As I said during E3, development is going favorably. I just wanted to say that the current PR priority is Kingdom Hearts III, as it was during the ARTNIA event the other day, but after that it’ll be Final Fantasy VII Remake, so please don’t worry

It would seem that the source of the rumors is the confusion between a PR priority and a development priority. Whereas Nomura admits that Square-Enix had prioritized PR for Kingdom Hearts III over Final Fantasy VII, he denies that development of the remake took a back seat while work was being done on Kingdom Hearts III.
