Smash Brothers creator Masahiro Sakurai has shown concerns for the future of the franchise due to the features of the upcoming Super Smash Brothers Ultimate, claiming that the game’s roster of every past character in the franchise could “ruin” future titles.
In an interview with Famitsu, Masahiro Sakurai lamented about how Smash Brothers Ultimate could ruin possibilities for future games (despite every previous game in the series being essentially the exact same but with new or different characters):
“I question what we’ll do with the next title, and I feel that having ‘all characters playable’ (for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate) may have been a Pandora’s Box that could ruin possibilities for what’s next in the series.”
“However, honestly speaking, I’m not thinking about what’s next!”
Sakurai was also surprised at how Ultimate’s aspect of possessing all former fighters didn’t leak:
“To be honest, I’m really glad that it didn’t leak. If it leaked that ‘all characters will be in it,’ then it wouldn’t have gotten the same reception. I really wanted to avoid having the work of several years get smashed by someone who wanted his little moment to brag.”
“It would’ve been over for us had the words ‘all characters playable’ made it out there. It was a top secret project that many at Nintendo didn’t even know about, and that’s why you saw cheers even from those involved with Nintendo.”
If anything, the game could perhaps doom the developers as players might expect every previous character from Ultimate to make it into the next release, in addition to new ones…
What ruins future gaming is current trend in gaming.
Do you happen to know what was trend in gaming in North America in year 1984?
Porking your mom.
That response sounded like it came from North America in year 1984.
I think they should just do a poll when it comes time to work on the next one. Bottom 10-15 are removed to make room for new characters/become assist trophies instead.
We really didn’t need Pichu back. Recombine Zelda/Shiek and Samus’s forms. The echo fighters shouldn’t take up a spot, instead if you click the pallet swap it changes the moves to that of them.
Isn’t this kinda what happened with Nintendo being the most innovative every year and then suddenly stopping. Maybe…
Well, Switch is already dead. Having sold more didn’t save it from going down the same route as the Wii U. You don’t even have to ask developers for Switch support, they just laugh at you. Unless Nintendo paid more $ than they will make off a game just to keep up appearance.
Why on this site Nintendo is hated?
because they probably want more hentai XD
Ummm the switch is far from dead, its even thriving, where are you getting your information?
@06:29 I believe the source was his ass.
thriving? there are hardly any good games on it…
only 5 games matter; zelda, mario, mariokart, smash bros, and metroid, since the first 3 already are released there is hardly anything to look forward to. Sure octopath is a nice little niche game, but aside form that it is pretty much a borefest.
Fire emblem is since the 3ds version pretty much anime s♥♥t fest, so no hopes for that either.
I have no idea what you’re talking about. The console is selling like crazy. It had one of (if not the) strongest first-year lineup in gaming history, and there’s been plenty of more good stuff released than what’s on your suspiciously tiny list. I can think of more than a dozen titles just off the top of my head that is worth playing. The fact that you didn’t even include Stardew Valley or other such smaller titles makes me wonder…
Plenty of the games matter, you just have picky taste.
Just because it has games you don’t like, doesn’t mean its not thriving nor doing well. If you think those are the only games that matter, then the switch is not for you.
well, they target small kids and strange people, who find heavy-smoker squids cute. Those people don’t play “good games”. They play nintendo games, which nintendo supply them a lot.
Definitely dead, no big titles new titles coming, only ancient ports.
Nintendo is alone again unless you consider a bunch of shitty indie ports third party support.
I’d honestly be happy if Ultimate is the last Smash Bros game. I mean, I’m personally satisfied with what they’re doing with this game, and I’d love to see Sakurai’s future projects beyond Smash.
Just piss off your fans by selling the other characters as DLC.
