The last of four films in the Neon Genesis Evangelion “reboot” will come in 2020, according to official sources.
The fourth and final Rebuild of Evangelion film has received a release date, with the long-awaited conclusion to the series set to come out in 2020, a mere five years later than director Hideaki Anno’s original plan.
As one might well expect, advertising for the final instalment of the mental illness-themed mecha anime is rather cryptic, with the official website’s main page bearing laconic text mentioning “the continuation and the end” and an even more obscure piece that some have tentatively translated along the lines of “error and correction”:

So, more realistically, when, and if, it actually gets released by 2022-2023, I can finally start watching the Rebuild series.
That’ll be some 15-16 years after the first Rebuild.
And that’s longer than what it took to start the Rebuild series after the original series (~10 years).
And seeing how the 3rd movie was hated universally and there’s little hope for the 4th to save things, I’m guessing it’ll be about time for Anno to announce the Rebuild of the Rebuild series.
Crossing my fingers for this madness to be over before the a third impact happens in real life.

With this movie and the first episode in the FFVII Remake, the 2030s are going to be a great decade. Hope it’s not delayed to the 40s.
