The official Girls Und Panzer Twitter has reminded fans of the cute franchise that the sale of unlicensed goods is copyright infringement (such as putting official artwork on goods and selling them), hopefully talking down greedy individuals looking to make a quick buck off obsessed otaku.
The statement via their official Twitter account:
“We thank you greatly for always supporting Girls Und Panzer. Recently, there have cases where unlicensed goods have been produced and sold, such as badges. No matter whether they are being sold/distributed for money or for free, these unlicensed goods infringe upon copyright. So to all our fans, please do not purchased unlicensed goods.”
Whether or not this will actually make an impact is not known, but in the very least the creators are intent on making sure they don’t lose out on potential profits.
Websites like Etsy are full of people infringing anime copyright, Ebay too. If they cared they would go after sellers, but they won’t. And who the f♥♥k cares?
Oh, shi— now the ANN tranny will go out to call them right winded.
fucking greedy capitalist. if it’s a fanmade merchandise sold on limited quantity it should be okay. Like you know, the franchise can’t become that big without their passionate fans.
I am sure they turn a blind eye to those (e.g. Comiket). When going against obvious for-profit chinese bootlegs, though, law requires them to make those claims of zero-tolerance. Otherwise, the bootleggers will claim they are fans and sell in limited quantities.
Actually, that’s not how the law works at all.
Actually, that’s how the law works. Google: “defense of laches”
If they didn’t want people making unlicensed goods, maybe they should start making licensed goods in the first place.
Well, why not name them? You have the fucking internet to record a video and post it so your fans know who not to buy from. Some of these people are not aware of the credentials of the retailer they’re buying from and as much as I want to say “it’s the fans’ fault”, I can’t really say it when the twitter announcement is as broad as that. If its convenient, I’d buy it. There are fans who aren’t as obsessive as your hardcore elitist fans so a little name thrown out would be nice.
What a GREAT idea!
*checks shops*
Yeah, someone already had that idea 5 years ago!
I think he meant licensed goods that don’t suck.
Because chinese bootleg merch is known for quality.
Then make more goods, compete or die/shut up! Have they ever thought about licensing fan goods? Hell no they can’t they are the mafia all they do is break knees and give you unreasonable deals then threaten to break knees if you don’t comply. Open up IP, get rid of exclusivity let people make whatever with whatever paying in 20-30% of what they make over 20-40k$/200-400k¥ a year on revenue intake on “unlicensed” goods…or we can keep on letting the corporate fascists take over…
STFU Are You Even A GuP FAN?
Can You Name The Caliber of the Gun on a KV2?
How about Its NATIONALITY?
Or The Nationality of A sherman Firefly, Its Tank Classification?
No?
THEN SHUT THE FLYING f♥♥k UP!!!!!
