DICE’s desperate attempts to recast WWII as a war fought by proud womyn and diversity is already backfiring even more badly than their earlier foray into Star Wars themed online casinos, with even non-gamers starting to realize that something is afoot.
Battlefield V’s reveal trailer, bombarded by a hail of dislikes:
Easily one of its most hated aspects is the introduction of a female soldier, whose martial prowess in the trailer must be a reflection of the latest historical findings that the majority of frontline combat soldiers were women.
The female soldier (who ends up saving the protagonist in the trailer and is also playable in multiplayer) also takes the spotlight on the game’s cover art, with DICE abusing the situation by offering to give buyers cover art featuring a man instead for an extra $20; remaining fans hoping that there will be any sort of change are unfortunately out of luck according to DICE general manager Oskar Gabrielson:
“First, let me be clear about one thing. Player choice and female playable characters are here to stay. We want Battlefield V to represent all those who were a part of the greatest drama in human history, and give players choice to choose and customize the characters they play with.
Our commitment as a studio is to do everything we can to create games that are inclusive and diverse. We always set out to push boundaries and deliver unexpected experiences. But above all, our games must be fun!”
Among other complaints were the abundance of black soldiers wielding Japanese swords that many have compared to some young child’s fabricated fantasy story – some of the comments on the reveal trailer:
The franchise’s remaining fans likely have only themselves to blame – after rewarding the mockery of European history present in Battlefield One and then the slot machine gameplay of Battlefield Disney, all that is left is to see what new horrors EA and its peons at DICE can devise…

Or the fact that in the trailer she using a freaking bolt-action rifle, balancing it with the hook arm, can handle the bolt-action rifle as good as a human with good two arms, and even hit the target. Clearly they trying to wow the viewers to the fact that some disabled woman with a hook arm can be so badass as the black samurai male soldier with a katana.
I dare anyone to try balancing a 5 kg rifle with a hook, a fork or something similar to it on your left hand.
That’s honestly what bugs me the most. I don’t remember World War 2 soldiers using cricket bats and prosthetic claws in battle. But then again, it was such a long time ago that I wasn’t even born then. I guess we’re currently living in a post apocalyptic age where technology regressed, just like everyone’s brains seem to have.

That’s a Dorrance Hook prosthetic, which used a cable to allow the claw to be opened and closed.
It being as effective as a regular arm in the game is just a concession to gameplay, for a customisation option in the multiplayer.
Except that it starts at her shoulder with the entire arm being mechanical. I don’t know much about the state of cybernetic implants during ww2 but I somehow doubt this was how it worked.
The prosthetic isn’t just stuck on the end of the stump, with a bit of glue or gaffer tape, you pillock.
By using straps, or some other means of providing tensile strength, you use the shoulder to hold it up and allow it to support a bit of weight.
And besides, like I said, it’s a cosmetic options that has a level of unrealism for the benefit of gameplay.
It is, by far, likely to be one of the least grievous breaches of realism in the finished game.
Clearly different type of prosthetic arm. In the trailer it’s as good as a normal good arm, even today technology there’s no prosthetic arm that can handle heavy guns as that good. It must be some kind of magical prosthetic arm lol.

GTA has been always very progressive, no female playable “yet” but ill bet there will be one in GTA6
Personally I think it’d be pretty awesome to have a female main character in GTA6, but with everything else pandering so hard these days, it’s probably impossible to make it feel natural by now.
I think the problem for most people is not the historical accuracy, but rather EAs diversity crap. I don’t mind women in games, i don’t even mind female protagonists, there are enough good games out there with those. But i do mind others showing how “oh look we are so open minded we even have disabled women, transgenders, blacks and what not in our games”. It’s pathetic.
