Shenmue III Delayed to 2019

The abundance of critics claiming that the upcoming Shenmue III was looking pretty underwhelming may be reassured to know that the game has been delayed until 2019, hopefully allowing the developers enough time to make the game worthy of the Shenmue name.

According to publisher Deep Silver’s official website:

“Deep Silver today announce that their upcoming release Shenmue III has been moved and will now release in 2019. The extra time will be used to polish the quality of the game even further, to the high standards it deserves and release the product in the best possible timeframe.”

Denizens online were mostly unsurprised by this turn of events:

Shenmue III will be released for the PS4 and PC sometime in the future.

I have never understood this criticism towards delays?
what do you want, a broken piece of shit you waste money on?
or actually finished game that is worth the money?

pisses me off to see people demanding stuff to be released on “time”
    impatient kids.

it is beyond me how people are so damn demanding over stuff they haven’t even bought yet.
your life doesn’t end just because you have to wait for something longer.

and if you preordered it is YOUR fault for jumping on hypetrains over something that doesn’t even exist yet.

No because Shenmue 3 has only been in development for a couple of years. Yu Suzuki couldn’t produce the game until he got the Kickstarter, which then attracted investors because it was super successful. He’s been wanting to make Shenmue 3 for as long as fans have been waiting to play it.

People still thinking FF15 is 10yr when it was only 4, gamers are just retarded piece of shit now.
When you have such a small team don’t think your shitty shenmue 3 will get out like your shitty netflix movie.

    • You’re shitty, because you obviously never played the first two when they came out and you don’t understand the depth and craftsmanship being put into them. Your sight is fogged by the realistic graphics and animations of today. So, just as I’m biased because I’ve played Shenmue when I was a kid, you’re also biased because you didn’t.

I can’t think of one kickstarter game that hasn’t been delayed for years, and then turns out to be buggy garbage when its finally released. Even the decent ones (Kingdom Come: Deliverance) turn out to be a technical fucking mess.

Oh well. What’s one more year stuck in that jade cave, eh Ryo?

People were saying for quite a long time that they never believed it would make 2018, and they’re happy with that because it appears Yu Suzuki now has a funding source to make a polished version of Shenmue 3 and they’re taking that time to achieve it. I would rather the game release in a proper state than a buggy one like many developers do and patch later.

We’re also getting Shenmue 1 & 2 HD this year so its not a huge loss. Hopefully Shenmue 3 releases early 2019 and they kickstart Shenmue 4 on the back of two great releases.

I doubt it, people waited 16+ years for Shenmue 3. Fans of the series would be happy with 2d graphics as long as its Shenmue. This is one story fans desperately want to see to completion.

It doesn’t even have to be garbage. Mediocre to good, but not great would already be a disaster. Most people interested in it because they are fans of the series backed the kickstarter and are already owed a copy. So the established fanbase will not buy it at launch because they already paid for it with money the company already burned. Trying to attract new people with part 3 of a series is basically impossible.
Selling less than a million copies might doom the series.
