Oricon has calculated the total number of manga sold throughout the year of 2017, with the top selling franchise bound to surprise no one considering its popularity has been undisputed for the past several years.

4. Boku no Hero Academia (5,852,310 copies sold)
5. Tokyo Ghoul:re (5,303,514 copies sold)
6. Haikyu!! (5,067,939 copies sold)
7. Nanatsu no Taizai (3,592,571 copies sold)
8. One Punch Man (3,223,151 copies sold)
9. Shokugeki no Soma (2,792,441 copies sold)
10. Magi (2,713,074 copies sold)
It worries me that less than half of the title are of my liking, and worse is that the rest are of my dislike rather than just not of my interests like in previous years.
That shouldn’t worry you, that’s a good thing. It means the industry as a whole is quite healthy, as a large number of people with very diverse interests is buying their product. A healthy industry is more willing to take risks, and take a chance on a more niche subject matter — including things that are probably more to your interest.
