A newly opened Chinese zoo is garnering notoriety online as all its pens were filled with common animals such as chickens, ducks and geese – the strangest attractions however may have been the inflatable penguin dolls.

The zoo, located in Yulin’s Guishan park, became famous on Chinese social media after visitors began sharing pictures of the “animals” on display:

The zoo apparently tried to promote its penguins by way of advertisements, though visitors were met with a surprise upon actually entering the zoo as the penguins were merely inflatable dolls (perhaps an understandable circumstance considering the zoo’s entrance fee was only $2.20).

Such an unimpressive zoo may not shock long-time China watchers however as China has been known for putting dogs into pens and claiming them to be lions

I thought so at first too but they have chickens and geese as the only live animal there as far as this story is letting on. As such no its not a place holder because they have nothing there to begin with.

Holy crap the place looks filthy, even by tourist trap standards. Wonder what the mortality rate for the animals is there.

It's as if EA were running the zoo and wants you to pay extra to unlock real penguins.

I want to know something. First of all, what kind of area is the zoo located in? Some piss poor "Detroit tier" environment? Or a mid to high class area?

Look at the Greater Toronto Area of Ontario, Canada. You have China Town which is a dirty piss poor area filled with literally "dirty Chinese restaurants" and then you go to the metropolitan center which is Eaton Center which is fairly okay.

You then go to Jane and Finch which is a gang and crime filled area. You go up north to Markham and its fairly clean. You go south and it's Scarborough but it's kinda dirty. Go East and you have Richmond Hill which is clean.

Point I'm trying to make here is that is this article just "bait?" Any country has piss poor dirty areas and environments. The amount of dirty places differs from country to country and vice versa with state or province, or prefecture.

We don't know how tight the regulations are in China and how they enforce it. For all we know we have the stereotype that all of China is shit, but that is not true in the year, 2017. Shit areas will always be shit no doubt and it'll fuel more news for us to laugh at. But I think unless we know what China is like in person and understand how each major province and city operates and its conditions, we shouldn't just label China as "shit."

PS. I'm not a Mainlander, I just want to look at the situation fairly. I too know little about China.

Don't break the circle masturbatory jerking, we need something to make ourselves feel better, since our lower middle class is starting to becoming this, and our piss poor areas make this looks darn fine.

As if we don't have factory farms that looks far worse than this farm doubling as tourist trap, which also exists in the rust belt. Then again, what would I know? Made some dough in those factory farms, and in the piss poor and posh area of various places, to fund my investments to grow the investments, contribute back to underprivileged, and fund my otaku laifu.

Would not want to reside in the current China nor the States personally, too much lack of true otaku and normal day-to-day freedom, speaking as someone who worked in piss poor and posh places of both and other places, have some passive income coming from both and others, and did some time in Bluefor forces.

People still live in pre 1989 China and pre 2008 States. F commies, but also F crony MIC capitalism that is deeply imbedded everywhere. Privatize the profits and the SOE ownership to the vested few, socialized the cost on everyone else, so more of everyone else is created to be trickled down upon.

Not talking about Buffett & Gates who earned theirs, and even gives back.

Uh, did you really think the conditions would be any better/different in a zoo considering the many other aspects we "just make fun of" like their medicine made out of garbage or toxic avenger like beaches...?

    Don't even try to defend...

I dunno, this seems to be apt. It's a Chinese Zoo, keyword: Chinese. You know it's gonna be false, cheap and underwhelming. They don't make things to impress, they make things to earn.

False, cheap, and underwhelming? That's exactly why its so impressive.

I'd still be willing to cough up the entree just to awe at how bad it is.

Not trying to unduly defending China but something like this is no different than those cheesy tourist traps you see on side roads off the major highways in the U.S.. Cheesey tourist traps like "The World's Biggest Ball of Twine" or one of the many faded and rust infested statues of Paul Bunyan and by today's standards would be classified as his life-partner "Babe the Blue Ox". Just saying............

Yeah, some of those diseases aren't species specific. Bacterial food borne types are the most common, followed by leptospirosis, q fever, etc.
