Netflix “Will Produce 30 New Anime Projects”

Horrible news has arisen for the upstanding western fans who have actual respect for anime franchises, as Netflix has announced that they intend to increase their expenditure on producing original content next year to $8 billion – a large portion of which will go towards the creation of 30 new “original” anime shows (and 80 original films).

Netflix’s apparent goal in all this is to free themselves from the yoke of US mega cartels by possessing a library containing at least 50% original TV and film content by the end of 2018 – most of the new original anime shows and films they intend to produce are all also slated for release that year.

Chief Content Officer at Netflix, Ted Sarandos, confirmed the news regarding 30 new anime shows and 80 original films, with his willingness to divulge such important information being regarded by many as a sign that those genres are performing better than most would expect.

So, mortifyingly, more such gems as Neo Yokio and the Death Note film may be on the way, sure to have fans yearning for a return to the good old days when they only had to worry about Hollywood butchering their favorite franchises even as Funimation butchered their dubs.

The Castlevania one is pretty good, just odd that they spent more time fighting priests than the minions of dracula.

Well it's not like japan delivers good animes either, they don't even make 1 once a year anymore. One punch man was good, attack on titan got shitty after you realize it's same old anime cliche bullshit soup you have seen before. Not much else comes to mind from the recent 5 years or more.

I highly doubt any of the new anime will be like Neo Yokio. Let's say only 2 or 3. We should be fine.

That's what they also said during the early start of trump presidency

"he's got a lot of competent guys and only a couple with dubious backgrounds, what's there to hate?"

    And then, shit happened.

I thought Yokio was sitting on the loo. Well the actual news isn't any better. It is just Netflix shitting out something they insist on calling Anime.

    Horrible news.
To be honest I don't understand why they don't hire Japanese studios to make ACTUAL anime distributed by them everywhere. THAT would be great news. No hack American directors, no crap made for the kid of a cinema star, real anime spoken in Japanese and subtitled. Perhaps even make some manga adaptation. They might even make money.

Invest in manga adaptation made by Japanese studios is a great idea.

I saw two episodes of this shot before I turned it off,
Neo Yokio is THE worst shit i have ever seen.
Every single character in that series except the Butler robot has crap voice acting!
And dear lord Jayden’s character is one of the most dislikable characters I have ever seen.

That said I hope they bring more seven deadly sins episodes and Anjin!

Congratulations, you're the reason Netflix are producing more "anime". Had people not watched it at all, they wouldn't make any more. By watching it anime on Netflix you've encouraged them to produce more.

the butler robots design is, odd? mostly because it lacks so much color, I mean pure white? they could've made it black and white.. it just looks weird.

I can't exactly blame Netflix since Disney and other companies are likely to start pulling out their content and making their own streaming channels.

Can't be helped. A pirate's life for me!

But Neo Yokio was a great parody. Especially when you know it was originally planned for Fox's ADHD but it got canned before the anime was done.
I hope they pay for a 2nd season cause it was good.
Also are you fucks forgetting they did the Castlevania anime?

"western fans who have actual respect for anime franchises" I find this comment so ironic considering that Japanese animation companies themselves have no respect for anime as an art-form themselves most of the time. With animators working long hours for shit money to make such great hits such as Ero-manga sensei, Berserk 2017, Kings Game and a truck load of garbage generic light novel adaptions.Look I understand that anime is regarded as a unique form of media to us westerners but lets not act like it's above any other forms of entertainment, because like anything else you have to shiv through alot of shit to find something worth while.

Ehh, most likely these $8 billion worth 130 anime will be like those cartoon made for kids, like Thomas & Friends and Teletubbies, all rated "T" (T for Toddler), and with some "gems" like Neo Yokio as mentioned above.

Pretending you know how and why something is popular, but ends up proving that you are less educated than the average 3rd grader that could easily tell you why THEY prefer anime over the convoluted bull that America has been making for the last 20 years... the kind of sh*t that MADE PEOPLE GO OVER THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE. Do you know why there was an explosion for anime in the late 90s early 2000s? It's because America was INCAPABLE of producing the content that young viewers were agonizing for, but never knew it could exist. Anime ushered out the realization that those desires could be realized and made into reality. Not every anime deserves a gold medal for best picture (heck most of them deserve to be used as toilet paper as that's all they were ever good for)... and yet compared to the garbage made in America, even Japan's "garbage" is still nutritional food by comparison.

Netflix is nothing more than a mere extension of all the bad films that have come out of Hollywood the last several decades. (Even the so-called good ones I would claim are either too safe to fail, or half-baked successes that failed to realize their full potential.)
