Western Phantasy Star Online 2 fanboys have found another reason to complain about the MMORPG’s nonexistence in the west as it has been announced that the game will be heading to the Switch (but only for Japan), perhaps proving that Sega has completely given up on the western market.
The announcement was unveiled by way of a Nintendo Direct and the YouTube video has been bombarded with a ton of dislikes:
Titled “Phantasy Star Online 2: Cloud”, the game is slated to launch for the Switch sometime next year and will be free-to-play – those fluent in Japanese may benefit highly from this release however as the Switch is a region-free console.
uh…… thats been morw than obvious since dreamcast died. unless its sonic or another popular series like vanquish, sega have pretty much abandoned the US market. soon enough nintendo will follow suit.
I think you’ll find a wide range of licensing issues prevent the game coming over in English. They have had a LOT of events with anime, manga, videogame stuff.
That and SEGA just don’t want to fund a Free to Play game as the server costs & staff costs wouldn’t make it worth their effort.

Just the translation would suffice, keeping all the servers in the east they would still get more public to play, but seems like that wont happen
JP friends agree that the primary reason PSO2 isn’t going to the West is very likely because of SJWs bitching about all the sexy outfits. They don’t want to deal with that bullshit.
Go to any of the PSO2 English forums and they’re already always bitching about the females showing too much skin.
Cus there are too many foreigners using cheats, that’s why they added region lock in the first place. In japan, you get jailtime “hacking” online games.
Region lock in what? PSO2? You can still play it from most places outside of Japan. They already banned most of the blatant cheaters.
Sega Japan and Sega US have been visibly incapable of cooperation since the development of the Mega CD/Sega CD.
The Japanese have never forgiven the West for the success of the Genesis compared to the unflattering performance of JP Megadrive sales.
