The 1,500th issue of Famitsu magazine has asked its readers (as well as its editorial staff and some celebrities and game developers for good measure) to vote for their favorite game of all time, with the top game somehow not being Final Fantasy VII (as it would be in the west) but an RPG based around teenagers.

Accodring to Japanese gamers, who are notoriously famous for not playing any game that doesn’t come from their country. Which means they’re missing out on the games developed in the west in the last 15 years, which are way better, on average, than Japanese games since then. Therefore, that list is totally worthless.
At least Tactics Ogre made it, but there are lots of other games that are much better than what is listed there. I will take Fable or Skyrim any time over Shenmune. I will also take FF6 over FF7 any day. I will also take Odin Sphere and Dragon crown over the majority listed there. Seems like it is more about popularity than actual being the best.
How are both Shenmue and Shenmue II so high on the list? With the games being on Dreamcast and Xbox only, surely not many Japanese gamers would have ever played them.
ffs when will they ever fix Nier on PC… we get it Japan, PCs are rare there but it’s not true elsewhere though…
