Sonic Mania “Highest Rated Sonic Game in 15 Years”

Sexy-Sonic-Girl-by-Naso4

The recently released Sonic Mania (a game created by numerous diehard Sonic fans as opposed to Sega who merely churn out soulless Sonic games for profit) has been so highly praised that it is apparently the highest rated Sonic game in 15 years, a feat that some may not regard as all that impressive considering the sheer amount of horrible Sonic games in existence.

Revealed via the official Sonic Twitter account, revered review site Metacritic was used as the basis of this announcement:

SonicMania-Highest-Rated-Sonic-15-Years-Tweet

Sonic Mania’s OP:

Sonic Mania stands tall at 86, bested only by Sonic Advance with its 87 and Sonic Adventure 2’s 89, not including iOS/3DS re-releases – the fan game’s success will supposedly alter the direction that Sega will take with future titles, hopefully ensuring more good Sonic games instead of notoriously awful ones…

Sonic Mania is available now for the PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC.

Goes to show that SEGA destroy whatever they touch. If they had let someone else handle the Sonic franchise before, someone who actually cared about it. Maybe we wouldn't have gotten Sonic 06 or Sonic Boom.

just goes to show you don't even realise sonic boom was done by a different company other than Sonic Team.

What about Sonic 06, was that done by other people, too?

Sonic 2006 has a miserable development story where they basically decided to ship it a year earlier than it was supposed to be shipped. It's really just an issue of completely incompetent management

Sonic is a tired idea and I always thought it was a flawed game (no reaction time because of 4:3 screen proportion and sonic being smack in the middle of the screen when running meant you had to memorize the game or go very slowly; HUGE design flaw!!), but hey, many people liked it and that's ALL that matters. If a return to basics is what it was needed to revivify the franchise, then welcome back, Sonic.

Lots of people apparently like their games to require memorization instead of skill to beat. Even more people like it if games don't even require memorization.

Lots of game makers have lost their way in the wake of 3D gaming and never quite made the jump to a good 3D game, but somehow refused to go back to 2D gaming, anyway. Pretty ridiculous.

If you have something that works, make more of it. If it turns out to be horrible in 3D and you can't make it work, just go back to 2D.

Ever heard about Final Fantasy VII? Great 3d game, or so I have seen claimed. Then it was made & release to PC not too long ago, and it got bitching because there wasn't much changes to the old. New remake is under work, and it has got bitching because it makes changes. And here someone made comment about Sonic Mania being BOOOOORING because it is remake of old Sonic games.

Sonic Mania isn't just a remake. They rearranged classic stages as well as added new elements to them and on top of that they designed completely new stages so... who ever said that is ignorant.

I played it for like 2hours. Don't see what people like about it, was a pretty tedious experience, tbh.

You know the original Mega Man Series for NES and how those six games are basically not much different from each other but all are awesome, anyway?

It's less about 2D versus 3D, and more about how developers don't work within limitations anymore. We got the most Innovative games between the NES and the PS2 because development costs were low and Hardware had limitations. Now when you make a game, it costs a billion dollars so you have to make something boring to make sure it sells to normies, and they also just shovel lots of meaningless garbage in there, like how Assassin's Creed has photo-realistic couches that probably took more time to create than the entirety of Metroid 2

I agree with the above anon.

THe thing about the NES - PS2 era, was that an unsuccessful game, didn't mean the end of the world. It was just a lesson.

But now people demand fancier graphics, and all that shit is expensive. So instead of being free to take a chance, developers HAVE to make a pretty game that will attract all the normies, or else it's literally the end of the company.

Every game is potentially fatal. People complain about innovation, but when things are changed too much it just turns people away. And then you can't even get the average tard, to buy your game because some cunt didn't stream it.

Sure, but these issues existed as far back as 1996. Castlevania is another game they never managed to make a decent 3D iteration of.

These days it's not about how good a game is. If you want massive sales, you have to ask yourself "Will streamers play this on twitch?". That's how simple games like PUBG and straight out kusoge like Crash Bandicoot got so big.
