Nier: Automata’s Success “Saved Platinum Games”

Armed-YorhaNo2TypeB-by-Parororo

Platinum Games (perhaps best known for the Bayonetta series) game designer Hideki Kamiya has recently showered Nier: Automata director Yoko Taro with praise over Twitter, crediting the masked man with saving the studio from being forced to continue churning out games based on existing franchises (a fate that usually befalls dying studios) due to the success of Nier: Automata.

According to Kamiya, Nier: Automata’s success has given the company a new fanbase while also increasing the size of its staff, things that Kamiya is very grateful for:

“NieR’s success has to this point given Platinum a new fanbase, a growing staff, a brilliant success story, an increase in qualified job applicants, and a great benefit.

Normally, I can’t help but do everything by myself… it’s a pitiful story, but to say that Yoko-san saved Platinum would not be an exaggeration. I cannot thank him enough.”

Yoko Taro’s response:

“Nice to meet you, too. Thanks to the support of the Platinum people, I was really saved by both work and spirit… It is an honor to be able to make games together. Thank you very much.”

Nier: Automata had accumulated over 1.5 million sales back in May, with the game looking likely to soon receive a sequel…
