Hordes of eager buyers queued up at electronics mega-department store Yodobashi Camera in Akihabara for a chance to purchase a Nintendo Switch as part of a special lottery, with it being estimated that over 3000 people lined up – despite its battery-draining bugs and bending problems.
Though numerous people had lined up, only 200 Switch consoles were available, leaving only those lucky enough to have the winning tickets with the ability to purchase them – photographs of the insane queue:
Some believe that the excessive crowding may have also been due to the fact that Splatoon 2 is releasing this week on July 21st.
And people say to startreck fans are a bunch of freacks….
3000 people who don’t know about online.
on the contrary, those 3000 people will sell it online with higher price
kinda funny the gamestop near me has 10 noone wants to buy them. maybe i should buy them and ship them over for like 2x the cost
I guess they screwed up in the distribution on purpose to pretend there is more demand.
We have stores here where the switch is just collecting dust, nobody buys them. Even local online gaming stores all have units available, and they were never sold out.
that just means someone isn’t managing their distribution networks properly. Sounds like your area managed to reach market saturation already.
Where I live, there are several places that carry the switch but they always sell out the same day they arrive. If you don’t check the day they get a shipment in, you don’t get one. Likewise, during a recent four-hour trip to another state, not a single Walmart or gamestop along the way had any in stock. So it would seem that different areas are clearly seeing different results.
This shows their time is worth nothing. They could order it online from home.
Call me crazy but I dont think those numbers add up.
