Japan’s Broadcasting Ethics and Program Improvement Organization (BPO) has recently acquired complaints about one unnamed late-night anime due to its “extreme” kissing scenes, with the show’s abundance of schoolgirl sex apparently flying under the radar…
One of the complaints read as follows (another far more reasonable one dealt with the presence of ads for idol-rearing games with strong gambling elements on TV):
“There was an extreme kiss scene with high school students in a television anime. It may have been a late-night slot, but it is not the sort of content to broadcast on terrestrial television viewable by anyone.”
Just how so many movies, drama and variety shows broadcast at all hours got away with all their kiss scenes in light of this seems quite inexplicable.
The BPO have historically received a variety of complaints condemning TV anime for their inexcusable content, with such scenes as Detective Conan where sushi was being eaten off a woman’s body, the masturbation scene from Osomatsu-san and the “controversial” ending to PriPara being only a few.
I wish we could have this quality of content in the USA. I doubt anyone would give two shakes about it, especially if it was late night or on Hulu\Netflix. Our shows generally have a rating in the corner, don’t like it turn it. People complain but it’s more about ratings and cash flow than anything else. Sadly our animation is pretty weak.
Look, complaints like this are made everywhere in the world. And not just about anime alone. Few complaints I have read about made in USA:
Red Riding Hood (story)
Mention of wine is harmful for children, story should be banned (or some such).
1984 (novel)
Praises communism, book should be banned.
Starship Troopers (movie)
Praises fascism.
Has any of those got banned in USA? I don’t think so. This one complaint may not make any significant changes to rest of the anime.
The day anyone ban 1984 & Starship Trooper the book, is the day they become the kind of evil they say they are trying to prevent.
With that said, these BS groups got their power with the influences of Western fake conservative puritans who have 80%+ cheating & divoice rate, or fake liberal feminazis.
First they went after chibi & flat boob anime/manga & simpson/southpark porn, eventually they will emulate 1984, animal farm, & Starship Trooper the shat movies.
And yet nothing’s happened.
The problem was that they were highschool kids doing these things. Not the actual sloppy kissing scenes. Not saying I agree, but I understand their side of the argument.
If they’re in high school they’re not kids anymore. In high school you’re already at the point where you choose the course of your future. Some country you can even choose to go to military school instead, learn about how to kill a person, learning about weapons, some even can get a chance to deploy with weapons if something happen and even have a permit to kill in the name of country or something. I would say at this point they’re matured and just a half step to become an adult.
What little I understand about Japanese law, that is in age 18-19. 20 years of age marks the adulthood in Japan which allows drinking of alcohol. And in USA are states where that age is 21.

Complaining doesn’t mean running. All these companies need to do is grow balls and tell them to f♥♥k off. It’s not like they’re the consumer audience anyways.
