DragonBall-Spinoff-Manga-Yamcha-1

A brand new Dragon Ball spin-off manga entitled “Dragon Ball Gaiden: Tensei-shitara Yamcha Datta Ken” has seen to the oft ridiculed Yamcha becoming the hero, an unprecedented turn of events that will seemingly be an impossibility if the franchise’s stronger characters (namely most of them) are still around.

The plot revolves around an ordinary high school boy who injures himself in an accident and ends up reincarnating as the hopeless Yamcha, with his only apparent goal being to make Yamcha the strongest hero possible – through by what means this will be accomplished has not been revealed.

The spin-off will be available through Shueisha’s Shounen Jump Plus:

DragonBall-Spinoff-Manga-Yamcha-1

DragonBall-Spinoff-Manga-Yamcha-2

The first chapter is available online now.

What is funny is Yamcha probably could have not been a joke if he hadn't been arrogant and took his eye off the Saibaman.

To be fair it because of Toriyama.

It's his decision that Yamcha is made into a joke that he his.

After seeing screenshots from the baseball episode I was thinking it would be interesting to see what things would have been like if things worked out better for Yamcha.

Yamcha could be a thinking man's hero, where he uses cheap tricks and dirty tactics like Mr. Satan to keep the appearance of his invincible strength despite not possessing any.

The thinking man in the dragonball universe will rush to get a wish for saiyan genetics. No, not a body swap like Zamasu did, that just invites trouble. You just want to splice in those sweet monkey genes so you can have a chance at staying relevant long term.

I should also add that this doesn't preclude cheap tricks and dirty tactics, but you want to actually have that genuine power to fall back on.

Well, I have been at dinner with Akira Toriyama once, and he said that Yamcha is the strongest of all, but hides his power throughout the series and will become the ultimate villain in the final battle.

With Toriyama being Toriyama that sounds really plausible.

Nahh the ultimate villain will be Black Zeno.

It's funny how in other media (notably the games) Yamcha's a powerhouse unlike his canon series counterpart.

It's always made me sad, seeing Yamcha (and pretty much the other non-Saiyan Z Warriors) get sidelined once the Saiyan power creep and alien bullfuckery popped up. Kinda lookin' forward to this, maybe we'll get more limelight on the other side liners (Launch, Oolong etc.) in this too.

The franchise stronger characters shouldnt exist, Dragonball and DBZ and above, are completely different, the only thing they have in common are the names and simikiar looks. Dragonball was an adventure, then it started catering to people who grew up to be mmo pvp hounds doing noing but duels and going "1 on 1 bro" and spaming duel invites the whole time. Dragonball had a story, but DBZ is the same thing over and over, just with a different eneny with no story at all.

@2:03 are you actually saying that the original Dragon Ball series was popular or is more popular than Dragon Ball Z in the US?

I remember in the original series, in the 2nd tournament, I think, his directed ball power was cool as fuck. I always thought it was a shame they turned him into a comedic relief character in Z.

    Isekai...

I'd accepted sending Yamcha to the past. Oh god, why is this allowed? Isekai is now how fanfictuon becomes a viable narrative?
