Top10-Successful-Anime-Franchises-2016-2

Mobile software company jig.jp has conducted a survey amongst those who use their anime-centric app Otamart, revealing what they believe to have been the most successful anime franchises of 2016 – with one revived retro title certainly proving to be quite prosperous.

The ranking, which consisted of 12,747 female votes and only a measly 2,132 male votes, which may account for the rot:

Maybe I'm just pedantic but I always feel that an anime that has only had a single season thus far should not be called a "franchise".

A true "franchise" anime should be either an anime that has had multiple full season arcs or movies, often with mostly new sets of characters (i.e. Gundam, Strike Witches), or, at the very least, spin-off shows and alternate universe variations of characters (i.e. Haruhi Suzumiya, Tenchi Muyo).

Except usually the anime itself is merely the newest component of the franchise. E.g. Re:Zero was a web novel, light novel, and manga, well before it was an anime. The anime was simply the newest addition to the franchise.

Normally yes, but then adding ANIME FRANCHISE to the tile of the list makes little sense.

Anime Franchise is several seasons of ANIME, not a series of stuff.

If this list was Top 10 most successful titles in anime industry.

Then yes, this would be a good list, except half of it has only a single source material.

Sankaku makes these lists to troll people and stir activity.

    Succeeding so.

It's not Sankaku making the lists. The lists are sources from JPN sources. The problem is how Sankaku PRESENTS the lists. Not to bash the current main poster, but ever since Artefact went essentially hands-off with the site, the amount of troll-ish/bait-click titling of posts shot up.

Yeah, Artefact had his share of post titles, but they were running gags that regulars knew about (and expected; perhaps even looked forward to.) However, his content for those posts were generally more accurate and not quite as liberal with the translations. (If memories serves me well, at any rate.) He even explained certain things if he thought it was necessary.

As far as I can tell, the current main poster tends to take liberties with poll titles, for better or worse. Looking at a Google Translation of the original pool title, it's basically a list of what trended well this year via users of a survey app. No real mention of "franchises" as we would normally define it. (And not even "most successful"; The main title is literally: "Otaku Trend Rankings 2016".)

So yeah... Very liberal translations/interpretation of sources by the poster. Sankaku doesn't "make" any poll results. They pull them from elsewhere.

People throw 'anime' around loosely like that a lot, so I don't really buy that argument. That level of specificity works with basically any other brand of media, but for the term 'anime' specifically I think it's fair to say it can cover any franchise that happens to include an anime or even anime-like media.
Also, sancom doesn't make these polls; it pulls them from other popular sources.

And a dakimakura with Rem on one side and Ram on the other side is simply a must have, anime or not.

Yeah, I probably should have included "anime that is part of an established multimedia franchise" as another option for "can legitimately call it a 'franchise'", although the specific anime on the list that made me write that in the first place wasn't RE:ZERO, it was YURI ON ICE, which is an single-season (so far) anime-original project so far as I can tell from Wikipedia.

That's a fair statement. I was merely using Re:Zero as an example.

Haikyu!! is a sports anime and that image is only of the team manager. I wouldn't call that a type B, unless you want to wish for the BL action between teammates, but I bet you just skimmed the pictures and titles. You're equally trash as the list.

fujoshi, are the ones who made this list. why, because most of these anime are filled with dudes that show up in fan art in yaoi style( one anime is yaoi).

And as we know now for a fact female votes should actually be divided by 5 aprox, because as we know 1 female voter votes 5 times or more. female votes are a very subjective thing.

Not surprised at all that Osumatsu-san topped the list, and it can probably make legitimate claim to the title. When I visited Japan back in late June, its merchandise was nearly as omnipresent as One Piece's; you could even see it in places that didn't otherwise have anime merchandise or advertising.
