Hardcore anime fans have once again shared their opinions with the world courtesy of this latest ranking, which reveals one particularly well-received superhero series as the original anime (as opposed to adaptation) most deserving of a sequel.
The ranking, which bears a spooky resemblance to last year’s ranking:
2. Psycho-Pass
3. Mononoke
4. Code Geass
5. Shirobako
7. Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt
8. Dennou Coil
9. Macross
1,4,5,6and 7. Quite good list!
DENNOU COI… Wait! It’s on the list, IT’S ON THE LIST!!
Macross Delta was like really bad fanfiction. And funnily enough, it was like they ran out of episodes with that ending. Another show in the same vein of terrible was Gundam Seed Destiny. They had to do that Gundam Seed Destiny Final Plus to even give it a tiny bit more of an ending.
26 episodes should have been enough to tell a decent Macross story, but they completely screwed that one up.
It’s also telling that Yoko Kanno didn’t do the OST/BGM at all. (Though I will admit some o fthe songs were catchy, if somewhat “WTF?” compared to previous series.)
Also, if Wikipedia and ANN are to be believed:
“Kawamori pointed out that the delta symbol in the logo is made of triangular symbols to symbolize the three main thematic elements of Macross: music, a love triangle, and Valkyries. However, he also noted that the two symbols are split, and explained that this is indicative that the three elements will not come together as expected in the new story.”
That last sentence says it all… Delta definitely didn’t come together. At all.
If you take a completed jigsaw puzzle, and smash it into a million pieces. That best reflects Delta by the end.
Anyone who thinks Shirobako needs a second season needs to rewatch Shirobako because they clearly didn’t understand the message of the show.
Not pls, Macross dont deserve more shitt sequels like DelCRAP.
Macross is kinda like Star Trek: Every other series is decent, the ones in between suck. (OAVs series apparently don’t count since Plus and Zero were pretty good, though Zero was a little too far into the mystical side for my tastes…)
Classic and Frontier were good. (Well, Frontier was a rehash of Classic to a good measure.) 7 and Delta were pretty trash. (Again, seems Delta was a rehash of 7. They didn’t learn their lesson, did they?)
If Macross does another series any time soon, I hope it follows the bloodline of Classic and Frontier. (Delta felt so fucking generic Hollywood style for plot and execution.)
Plus is the only good, and Zero is regular, but the rest are really crap, and delta is the worts at all of them, full of cliches.
