A special 50-minute documentary on Studio Ghibli’s legendary Hayao Miyazaki has revealed that the revered animator will be coming out of retirement (once again) for possibly his last animated film “Kemushi no Boro”, sending some of his more hardcore fans into unbridled excitement knowing they will soon see the master at work yet again.
The upcoming film was originally meant to be a CG short for the Ghibli Museum (and was apparently worked on by Miyazaki over a 20 year period), Miyazaki however was disappointed with the end product and suggested that it be made into a full-length movie instead, despite the short likely being destined for fame due to having Miyazaki’s name attached.
Apparently the film will revolve around a caterpillar of such minuscule size that it could be “easily crushed between a person’s fingers”, suggesting the kind of heartfelt story common to numerous Miyazaki films.
The awe-inspiring animator has stated that the film may require at least 5 years of work, time which the 75-year-old may not have – though Miyazaki has admitted that he would much rather spend his final years doing what he loves rather than nothing at all.
Hurray!
This person will never retire.
