“Made in China” Dump Food Sold Fresh

The latest in outlandish occurrences has taken place in Wuhan, China, where local residents have been caught scouring garbage dumps for trashed food to resell and even eat, causing many to wonder just how horrible the situation has become in the area that people are willing to eat (spoiled) food from the trash…

A local retailer served as the source of the expired food, an event that could be accurately summed up as “one man’s trash is another man’s treasure”, at least for the desperate citizens who were photographed dividing the bounty amongst themselves.

The photographs of citizens digging through the trash were soon widely picked up in China and beyond:

The waste was apparently so abundant that citizens could be seen stocking whole vehicles full of it, with some scavengers telling reporters it was going to be repurposed into pig feed – though it has since been discovered that the food is being resold to other citizens as another “China-quality” product.

Best before means its still edible, just not as good. Expired means you should throw it out. The amount that Wal-mart just throws out would be enough to feed the homeless. I imagine it should be the same with China.

I've always been sad about that, I asked about it a while back. Asking a Safeway manager why fruit is thrown out each day and not given to homeless shelters, and he said basically 'We'd love to, but you have to understand the cost to us to truck it to them every day will add up considerably, plus will devalue the product itself which can affect farmer revenue as well.'

This is true, and while yes they could take some profit loss by trucking the food to the shelter, I would actually not mind tax dollars going to that job for drivers to go around collecting food from these places to re-purpose it. Some do it now, but there's still a TON of food that is safe to eat just doesn't 'look' presentable that could feed many people who only have one or two meals a day or worse. Problem there is if the scale gets too large, economic destabilization could happen, because I'd go there too for the food, not the store.

I've also asked about this when I was younger. I wanted to buy food from the deli late at night. The manager told me they also do it because the homeless people could say the food made them sick.

Make them write agreement that the food might make them sick. Problems solved

It was just a random question because they trashed the hole deli, I was shocked. I had never seen anything like it, night everyone.

    "Fuck humanity"

    so that's it. Fuck it.

Not as terrible as people thing. The terrible thing is that its all piled up, let in the worst possible conditions. If it was given to people in an orderly manner, it wouldn't cause much problem. Food that has slightly passed its "expiration" day is still edible.

What we call dumpster diving. People need ways to get through tough times and they work hard at it in China.

    Nothing new here.
One thing to keep in mind the average Chinese citizen is still very poor.
Though if China has rules similar to the US something being past it's sell by date doesn't necessarily mean spoiled.

They are chinese, which means they are not human, only counterfeit human. Trash eating trash is nothing strange. In fact what is revolting is that some of those subhumans are eating food that is meant for humans (or their pets) to eat. Also Senkaku Islands belong to Japan.

I do that all the time.

Come on. Food doesn't fall from the sky. If it doesn't taste sour just eat it.

Unless the food is supposed to be sour. Like cheese and yogurt. Then eat it anyway.

Well any large government not beholdant to the people will screw up big time, the US may lean in the direction of a populace democracy though a representative system but its really sold out tot he lowest highest bidder, IE its like of all the worlds wealthiest people/groups the lowest quality ones own America....

Considering the shape and population numbers of China and Russia I am surprised they are doing so well but really boil it all down and the US/China/Russia and other large nations are controlled by a few morons.

Here is the thing: The Chinese Government actually elects their officials by merit, at least, officially. Posting officials by merit is a capitalist sentiment; if the government was actually communist they would just pick officials by lottery since meritorious selection is not compatible with the ideal of everyone being equal.

    > The U.S. in practice is a democracy but in no way is it a pure Democracy.

What are you smoking? The US is a republic, not a democracy.

And "control of the media" has absolutely nothing to do with whether a nation is communist or capitalist.

    23:31 26/10/2016 # ! Neutral (0)

The economy is free-market capitalist but the government itself is still a Communist regime. Just because a government is not pure Communist doesn't mean it isn't Communist in practice. Just look at how China has such overt and unapologetic control of the media. The U.S. in practice is a democracy but in no way is it a pure Democracy.

there are countries far more worse than this,
at least they have spoiled food

and from what i see in the pictures, many of them are well sealed, I don't see the problem, I would take them too if it's the week before my rent due
of course, I would take the consequences as well (get sick, bad odor, etc) I would go for dry food

The Bill & Melinda Gates foundation have talked about this for years. Most of them barely get by—struggling with unproductive soil, plant diseases, pests, and drought. Their livestock are frequently weak or sick. Reliable markets for their products and good information about pricing are hard to come by, and government policies rarely serve their interests well. Even if these people could grow food the land might not be any good. In the U.S. most farms have genetically altered seeds that can withstand bugs, droughts, and poor nutritional soil.

    12:30 26/10/2016 # ! Neutral (0)

And people will still be protesting against all that genetically altered foodstuff because 'GMO is playing God' and 'I don't wanna eat DNA' or some nonsense like that.

    Comment by Anonymous
    14:10 26/10/2016 # ! Neutral (+0.2)

No, don't mistake those morons with those of us who realize what genetic engineering has become and how dangerous it is. Right now Monsanto has seeds that can only be treated with their own proprietary pesticides, and those are not working anymore much like antibiotics not working with illnesses. Those seeds are contaminating non-affected seeds as well, and are unable to be treated by anything else, even natural solutions that have PROVEN to be more effective then chemical on normal plants. Then they sue the farmers for having their seeds because wind blows seeds onto their land.

Genetically engineered seeds have been done over millennia, by cross-breeding the plants using science the ancients have known since Sumeria that lets nature do its work, but now chemical alterations are at play in the portion of 'playing god' that the idiots complain about. I couldn't care less about them 'playing god' just do it the way we've done for generations. It takes time to do. Corn has evolved over time due to selective breeding, as have animals.

Trying to force it is the same thing that causes the side effects in modern medicine. Only reason side effects exist is because they have to extract the active ingredient from a plant/moneral they couldn't copyright, when the plant itself was balanced by nature and did not have side effects for the same treatment if you took it on its own.

Genetic engineering to 'feed the planet' is bullshit. It will cause side effects, we know it will. Just like hormones in cattle, it's a given. It's not even a question. The other aspect is we still pay farmers not to grow other food, and grow abundance of corn because reasons. We could grow enough in the country now to feed half of Europe basically if we wanted to, but we don't.

There's a reason we don't want or need GMO crops. Seriously, don't listen to morons who sling slogans from either side, read up.
