The Nintendo Switch Unveiled

Formerly known as the NX, Nintendo have at last unveiled their next-gen console: the “Nintendo Switch”, which they describe as a technical marvel capable of allowing users to play whatever game they want wherever they want – essentially combining the powers of a console and handheld into a single device.

Nintendo’s official first look video for the Nintendo Switch:

Nintendo fans can give the Nintendo Switch a try in March.

It's basically Wii U 2. Same shit, only the tablet can now be used farther away. The same people that didn't buy the Wii U (a hell of a lot) will be the same people that don't buy Switch.

Difference is that the Switch is going to allow for hot swapping from tablet mode to console mode, so if you wanna head out for a bit, take it off the console, game's still running. You can either play it like a handheld, or bring the controller and flip out the kick stand and it turns into a mini screen.

One thing I like a lot about this little gizmo, is that it offers two player support even in tablet mode, but I highly doubt the split screen will be good in terms of screen sharing.

Overall though, the fact this is going to be using cartridges instead of disks, will basically make it faster on load times, last much longer than disks because you don't have to worry about scratching. You also won't have a giant stack of game cases, instead it'll just be DS-sized game cases, which if you go to a Gamestop or online shop, you can just buy a little accessory that stores all of your cartridges, giving you space in your house to store other stuff. However the main point is that with cartridges, your system is going to be soooo quiet, allowing you to game comfortably and not have to listen to the hum of the disk drive in your console and have to turn up your volume to go over that hum.

So the pro's of this console are.

    Faster load times.

    Overall noise generated

More than likely cheaper since cartridge readers aren't that hard to manufacture.

But the main point I'm making here, is that while you have your handheld as the core of your console, that thing has to be packing some serious heat to be able to play something that looked like Skyrim, so I'm expecting this thing to have the power of a console in the format of a handheld device, which would be insane.

Actually the Switch is the successor to the Wii U and the 3DS. If you want a portable machine, it'll be that or nothing.

Possibly? But I can guarantee you they won't be as powerful (which I'm sure would be a big point for so many anti-nintendo people to bring up if it was in their favor), the Switch WILL be better overall. You can argue that you don't want to play mario games or have a co-op experience using the detachable controllers, but it doesn't matter. People who do, WILL get the Switch.

Full pokemon game will most likely be the main draw, but being able to take it anyway is a big one for me, i travel a lot, and being on a train for 8 hours a go is just plain agony, this would make the time fly by.

If people who don't buy a 3DS (which is more or less due for an upgrade soon) because they bought a switch, what did Nintendo lose exactly?
I hate apple, but saying apple is cutting its sales of product X because of product Y is just as stupid. The sales still go towards them.

That's what the 3DS is for. They're basically fighting their own product now...

Plus we have mobile games on our phones which is way more convenient. They could have done some kind of streaming between our phones and the console instead like with the PS4 and Sony phones except making it work outside home. Same result but more convenient.

iPad games dont require button input, which is the main reason why mobage are so hated by gamers to begin with. That alone puts this in a more relevant category than ipad already.

I've seen some commenters on youtube claiming the switch will be on par with PS4 and Xbox One lol
If that were true and given that it runs on three phone batteries, 15 minutes would be accurate. It's really amazing how ignorant of basic, simple truths people can be.

The real stupidity is how everyone looks at the graphical power of every system on a shared, linear line. Graphical capabilities are more complicated than 64bit > 8bit now. Its not like horsepower. My bet is that the games will be capable of looking almost as good as ps4 games on the surface, though, but not technically. Its pretty much guaranteed Switch wont be 4K compatible, right? Honestly, I already dont see Wii U games as ugly compared to ps4/xb1 as it is, but the real problem is that their specs (and brand) is what draws third parties away.

Maybe not? Judging from the amount of research that's gone into using high density, low loss capacitors instead of lithium-ion rechargeable batteries and making them more cost effective, the Switch might be better on battery life than anything we've seen in the past. That is, of course, if the research is as far along as reports claim, and if Nintendo is making full use of it.

Let's be honest, it'll sell well only if piracy is easy on it, look at how many Wii(security was a fucking swiss cheese) was sold and how many Wii U(which was better protected). Or it'll have to be low priced, otherwise i don't see the use of the kind of console. Skyrim? Seriously?

    10:41 22/10/2016 # ! Neutral (0)

The reason they're going with cartridges-only is pretty much to fight piracy. Thats also part of the reason I'm more hopefull that they'll go region free this time, maybe with optional per-game region locking

well, they did too with the DS, 3DS and earlier consoles, didn't stop it though. 64gb sd card is pretty cheap and i don't think games on this... thing will be more than that. As soon as a way to launch "backup" games will be found, you'll see a whole bunch of sd card adapters.

Thing is, each console is sold at a slight loss. The real money comes from selling the games. As long as the games keep selling, they don't care how many consoles they sell.
Same reason why Sony butchered the Vita after what happened to the PSP.

Because Nintendo wants to appeal to Americans who love old broads, that's why. Anyone eighteen or nineteen years old is "peddi bait" here.

Despite eighteen IS the legal age.

I wonder how well all those connect/disconnects of the various parts will hold up over time, especially with kids doing it. Also wonder if your home screen is limited to whatever resolution is output onto the portable screen. The game on card is nice and fast, but again how many times can you plug/unplug it before the contacts wear out.

I'd rather they not do that... Even though I own multiple consoles, I honestly have more respect for nintendo than those other two... they've really become way more of the big-ass, faceless, heartless, mcdonalds-like corporations than Nintendo ever has. And I find their hardware to be way more reliable than the other two's on average.

is it waterproof, shockproof, rough kid proof, battery duration, condition( it won't blow up like the samsung phone, right ), battery replaceable/ what type they are (are they regular or call the company to replace )? what kind of warranty comes with it? what kind of tv/setting works with it? what about it's connectivity with another devices? is it good with wifi or use different kind of connection? are the parts of the console are sold in one or can be sold separately: in case of the console being found damage in one part or call the company/store to report damage console, in order for it to be fixed?
