Niantic Labs (the developers of the ravenously popular Pokemon Go) are being sued by Netherlands authorities due to mass amounts of players trespassing into protected beaches in order to catch their beloved fictional creatures, an event that the developer is “clearly” at fault for.
The hordes of Pokemon Go players that flock to the beach resort of Kijkduin (which has even been nicknamed “the Pokémon capital of the Netherlands”) are the main concern of authorities, as they believe such an uncontrollable amount of people could damage the surrounding area – with the concept of “keep out” signs or fencing evidently a long forgotten art to Europeans as recent events suggest.
Left with “no other choice”, Hague authorities have opted to sue Niantic Labs (after their attempts to contact them since mid-August had failed) for being unable to control the millions of obsessed fans who play their game and display sadly limited self-control in the face of app-reinforced behavioral guidance.
Niantic Labs has previously responded to requests to remove the game from specific parts of the world, which has since led to the Hiroshima and Berlin Holocaust memorials, the former concentration camp at Auschwitz and other areas being eradicated of Pokemon – though it could be assumed that the developer was simply overwhelmed by requests, causing the pleas of Netherlands authorities to go unheard.
Post an armed guards, permit shoot to kill, post signs saying “deadly force is allowed”, then after 5 meters “Go further or YOU WILL DIE!!!” and after another 5 meters “We have warned you. We’re not responsible for anything that can happen to you after this point”.
Problems solved. More than one problem, actually.
Where did the people forget their brains? Not just Pokemon Go players, it’s humanity in general.
Uhm, before you spew some baseless accusations. Most of those areas have keep out signs surrounding them as well as fencing. Yet it seems that in the quest for pokemon the players just blatantly ignore them just like the majority of other rules and common sense that’d inconvenience them in their quest for pokemon.
The great thing about it for Nintendo is people pay for it. An app so good you would die to use it! Brilliant! Gotta catch all the funerals!
Except just like with all jerks with disregard for life, the bystanders are as often the fatal victim of these types of idiots as the perpetrators themselves.
If driving while looking at your mobile phone screen didn’t pose a threat to others in your vicinity I doubt they’d made it illegal, it’d just be dumb people killing themselves with their dumb actions.
However the story changes when you have to tell the family of the victims that the reason their loved ones don’t come home is because a driver was too busy looking for pokemon while driving that he crashed into pedestrians.

After some Wiki reading, it seems to me in the USA Niantic would be considered principal in the crime, not even accessory, because what it does is happening before the act (it’s encouraging (and rewarding) people to flock to restricted places).
No idea about Netherlands, though, if they intend to sue the company over there. In my home country (within EU) the situation would be the same as in the USA, so perhaps Netherlands is the same.
It pretty much is, I don’t even need to grab the lawbook for that. It’s called instigation and makes you by law responsible for the caused crime.
Also trying to get all the pokemon players to behave like normal human beings requires a large police force constantly scouring the area for misbehaving players, which is expensive, ineffective and pretty much a waste of the police forces time(which could be spend dealing with actual crimes). Taking the problem out at the source(removing the pokemon so there is no reason to perpetrate) is far more effective.
