Megami Meguri Encourages Exploration

A gentle trailer has been released for the upcoming Megami Meguri, a unique 3DS title which requires players to scan IC cards (otherwise used to pay for transportation) so that the game’s cute spirit girl can blossom into a goddess, bound to convince otaku to go outside but perhaps not to the extent of the more popular Pokemon Go.

The heartwarming trailer:

The game will be compatible with at least 10 different IC cards; more information will be divulged with the September 15th issue of Weekly Famitsu Magazine.

Hmm, so IC cards are only good for a certain amount of travel, then you have to buy another one?

So they're different from what I see in so many anime, where characters use either their phone or what seems to be a refillable pass card?

This is the sort of thing that wouldn't work in the US; we don't have that kind of common usage across the country.

There are both refillable and non-refillable cards. They aren't different from what you see in anime, and there isn't any reason for it not to work in the USA.

10 different public transit pass cards isn't really a lot. I would imagine that the USA has more than 10 public transit pass card providers, maybe one per state for a minimum of 50

A lot of them are compatible across multiple transit companies too.

Just remember to be safe on public transit with your phones and tech equipment.

ic cards are rechargeable cash cards used for transit, you can also use them for equipped vending machines and at convenience stores.
