The creators behind Metroid fan-game “Project AM2R” have revealed that – after years in development – their project will soon be unleashed upon the Metroid community, bound to appeal to hardcore enthusiasts of the series who don’t mind the fact that the game may be horrible due to being a fan creation.
Project AM2R is a recreation of the classic Metroid II, boasting a graphical update that makes the game seem similar in visual style to that of Metroid: Zero Mission and additionally modernizing the game with quality-of-life improvements such as a map, smarter AI and new mechanics.

Project AM2R is slated for an August 6th release as indicated by a countdown timer on the title’s official blog, though whether or not the game will ever make it to release day without being issued a cease and desist from Nintendo is still a matter of some concern.
people.. calm down about Nintendo. this project is almost 10 years old and Nintendo would have sent a cease and desist a long time ago. now i don’t care about Nintendo and i’m not defending them(honestly i’m not even a Nintendo fan anymore). to Nintendo’s credit they are allowing this game to be made and distributed (again i don’t like Nintendo but they do have the power to shut this down). just saying be thankful that any of this is happening. i’ve been waiting for this remake ever since zero mission came out. let us not forget that the chrono trigger projects and remakes were shut down by Square Enix. let us be thankful that we are getting a metroid 2 remake and a metroid game that most have been wanting for a long time. i can still remember when i was a freshmen in high school and seeing this project for the first time, now i’m a junior in college and still just as excited as ever. now if nintendo did shut this down i would be very angry and upset, but they have never acted with a cease and desist when the demos in the past were distributed and i don’t think they will now.

I’m downloading the latest version of the remake while it’s still on the site NOW, and everyone else here better do the same while it can still be done.

August 6th marks the 30th anniversary of Metroid, DoctorM64 is releasing the complete version to coincide with that historic day.
The game itself has been playable for a couple years now, but only 2/3 of it was previously playable. And it’s pretty fucking sweet.
Great, now that they are advertising it, they are gonna get C&D by Nintendo within the next few hours.

That, and Nintendo’s constant censorship and other bad decisions. If they C&D this they can kiss my money goodbye forever.
Yeah, innovation is all nice and dandy, but they should continue sprite based games. And don’t change those sidescrollers into 3D, it looks and plays horrible.
