The highly esteemed Degica (known for publishing the RPGMaker series) has unveiled their latest game development software, this time offering novice designers a chance to easily forge their own visual novels while also giving them the opportunity to send their games overseas and hopefully further carve out the genre’s popularity.

The unfortunately brief trailer:

Visual Novel Maker will arrive on PCs sometime this fall.

Well it offers Live2D, allowing character sprites to move, which is pretty astonishing.

However I'll wait and see if it allows "pure text-based scripting". It it only offers GUI interface then it won't be an option, because that means you are basically locked to their framework. Adapting a script into it will also be a pain.

Or all the Nscripter variants, although likely outdated.

Except it's already super easy to make VNs with ren'py, and they are also cross platform, so these guys can eat a dick.

Why are you guys so adverse to this normal, every day, shit? Are weebs just more particular about it or what?

Having an alternative platform is nice on the off-chance the other one goes belly up for any reason. Also, variety. Not every game in the world is built on one single engine. Frostbite, Unreal, idTech, Lith-Tech, Gamebryo, Unity, Source, etc.: All of them do essentially the same thing in the end. Yet none of you bitch or complain that they all rehash the same idea (i.e. game develop platform/engine.)

Each has their own perks and issues to contend with. I'd say get your heads out of your asses and see the bigger picture, but this is SanCom: 1 or 2 stops short of /b in terms of maturity.

so if a company makes a game, no other company should bother making the same type? so let's get rid of Battlefield, CoD, Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat etc etc etc...

We already have RenPy which will export the game to PC, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS so why. We are already seeing them on Steam.

    Some games using it:
    Juniper's Knot
    Dysfunctional Systems
    Katawa Shoujo
    Sepia Tears
    Analogue
    Kissxsis light version
    Carpe Diem

    ...You get the idea

Yeah. Having another VN maker is rather redundant. I can't imagine what else they can offer.

Capitalism is based on competition. Competition is what really drives development and innovation forward. I'm not familiar with this RenPy tool, but surely you guys don't consider it perfect?

It's not perfect, but it's a league above what Degica seems to want to deliver.

And it's constantly been updated and improved upon.

Competition is only valid if the competitors have something else to offer, like I said. If it doesn't have anything, there isn't really a point.
