One particularly determined YouTube creator has conversed with random Japanese strangers about the famous “weeaboo” slur, unsurprisingly generating a mass of bewilderment considering the word’s obscure online origins.

The interviews:

Though the results are rather positive, the tiny sample and positive gloss probably do not point to a major reversal in western otaku fortunes.

Culture is meant to be shared. Most people forget. People find the most petty of reasons to call out others for using another person's culture simply because they're interested in it, using appropriating as an insult, in this case "weebs". We still have room to grow.

I would not say "meant to be spread" but simply that it spreads naturally. It's what humans do, and have always done.

Culture is not "meant" to be shared, but there is nothing stopping you from doing so as in a respectful and understanding matter, which very few people do. Certainly not the weebs.

Japan is far from perfect, it has many of it's own problems and shortcomings.

But, they are not opening up their borders to whatever third world"refugees" and letting the jews control every aspect of their economy and media. Japan is far better than my own country and I will gladly die to defend it. Banzai for the emperor!

I don't think being inclusive is really a negative trait. America has a lot of problems, but "Land of the Free" is not one of them.

I think Japan's biggest problem is its issue with sex crime. Taking care of that issue would help settle a lot of problems in Japan, mainly because it would require the Japanese government to actually DISCUSS sex, which is something that never happens over there from what I've heard...

You don't think allowing opportunistic migrants to flood across the border, where they literally gang up to rape women and demand the locals (who've spent centuries slowly working towards secularism) alter their culture and legislature to pander to their bullshit desert cult.

People like you are the reason conservatives immediately assume I'm retarded when my ideals are predominantly left-leaning.

It basically applies to everyone who isn't Japanese. You may legally become Japanese, have a job, have friends and maybe a family, but you will never socially be Japanese. The only exception I saw to this was with one of my Japanese-American friends who lived in Japan for a couple of years. Since he was of Japanese descent, people thought he was a natural Japanese and told him to stop acting like a gaijin.

Our understanding of what "weeb" is, would come close to their offensive concept of "otaku".
Which coincidentally means mostly someone that reached deep-end in his.her interest into anime and/or manga.

Well, long story short..do not mistake otaku for a weaboo.

The comment about it meaning they might like Japan more than their own company is ignoring the fact that most don't understand how Japan's government etc works and it's more about liking the culture. Also ignores the fact that a lot of people realize how much their own countries suck.

Weeaboos forgo reality and focus on just the cultural aspect of Japanese society. That's what makes them soooooo annoying. They deny and reject their own culture that they are immersed in. This is just so they can wallow in the fantasy that Japanese culture elicits from non-Japanese that watch too much anime. Just another form of escapism but with rather detrimental personal effects.
