Twitter has once again come abuzz with the latest fad, requesting artists to showcase before and after images demonstrating how much they have improved over the years, which will surely motivate any budding young illustrator to stick at it.
The top images represents the artist’s previous work (spanning as far back as infancy, cheekily enough) while the bottom image demonstrates their current level of skill (some are side-by-side however):
TY easy paint tool sai
aw yea
I love these, it is so satisfying to identify progression in an artist’s work.
Everyone can master drawing. The only difference is in practice time.
Some people excel after 3 years. Others need 300 years.
Would be much better if they included more pics, going from mspaint to awesome is pretty meh and I bet that mspaint pic was faked.
while as for me, I’ve been drawing nearly the exact same way for 10 years with little-to-no progress no matter how much I’ve practiced; it really sucks
just use a better program so it can make it for u
Maybe you should try new techniques. Or you could study other people’s art styles that you like. Experimentation is important for progression IMO.
“…exact same way for 10 years.”
Why you have not progressed, right there. That’d be like expecting to get swole as s♥♥t by doing the exact same workout routine, same reps, same weight without trying to do more over time. Your body has no reason to adapt. Why should it?
Life doesn’t work like an RPG; You can’t get to level 20 by just killing rats each day.
If you’re not pushing yourself and gradually raising the challenge over time, why on Earth would you grow?
RPG is just a simplification of life itself.
Yeah right…
They say “practice makes perfect” but the thing about learning and getting better at things isn’t being good at one thing. See, music, martial arts, drawing, and pretty much anything that requires skill is made up of learning many many things, so you don’t simply practice “drawing”, you practice drawing hands, heads, faces, environments, painting people, clothes, and so on. There’s more than one thing to practice.
Practice makes perfect but nobody’s perfect,so why practice?
To reach Ultimate Form.
Mega -> Perfect -> Ultimate.
I used to suck at drawing.
Then I started drawing every day for multiple hours and doing studies.
Took me a year to get decent. few years to get good.
You will get better if you try.
It only depends on how much you are willing to put work on it.
The only way you ever get better at drawing is to draw draw draw draw draw and draw. No other way around.
The world “talent” makes me puke.
It’s hard work and passion. Not some magic trick that makes you better than everyone else.
“the exact same way for 10 years” there’s your problem.
The difference is about practice and education.
I really like how Japan’s education system allows them to improve simple things which the west thinks of like it’s a pain in the ass to study on like drawing, cooking, classcial music and etc.
I rarely see that in the West except from Germany and France.
Do you mean the club activity in japanese schools? And yeah, that’s great and would’ve probably helped me great amounts if those were here in Finland, there is only sports and playing instruments here 🙁
(I was too pussy to start playing anything and ended up being depressed)
