FullMetalAlchemist-Official-Art

A live action movie has been announced for the widely revered Full Metal Alchemist series, a rather sudden revelation considering the recent lack of activity for the ancient franchise.

The movie will be directed by Fumihiko Sori, whose previous works range from Appleseed to the live action Ping Pong movie; with pop idol sensation Ryosuke Yamada taking on the role of Edward Elric and sure to give critics even more reason to despise the movie should it be anything less than a masterpiece.

Fans are already curious as to whether the movie will be adapting the anime or perhaps deliver new content in its entirety, though as usual there are already quite a few who have low expectations for the film given the generally poor quality of live action anime adaptations.

The movie is slated for a summer 2017 debut.

Naruto hand casting plus death note's big CGI walking armor, with typical Japanese stoic acting, i see no problems coming up in the future kappa

Hopefully they just do their own thing within the FMA universe like the previous 2 films, instead of adapting the whole series and fucking it up. FMA has a very unique and expansive lore that could be rich for new ideas or stories that happen before the series even began. Like, how about a film about Ed and Al's first few missions, how they got along with Mustang and so on, while alluding to the original series. That would be pretty cool.

They should show Xing more or other east Asian analogues. Ed and majority of the main cast are white so a problem like the one in Attack on Titan exists.

One hand? I could definitely see live-action FMA. It's grounded enough to be DONE without too much defilement.

On the other hand, it's a Japanese work that's very, very clearly set in an alternate, WWI-ish era EUROPE and I can't seriously imagine being able to find the right PEOPLE who could manage to do it well.

well, for some reason, I think it could actually be good. It will probably be a new story, the manga, the first anime, movies, and all games had all exclusive stories, some even with new characters exclusive to them, so there should be no reason for them to not do it on this one.

Yet, for some reason, I think it could actually be a good movie. o_o I wonder why do I think it could be any good though...

I'd swear that Japan adapting all these Blatant and Obviously COMPLETELY *Western* Based Anime with all Japanese casts is their way of Getting Revenge on the US for their WHITE WASHING of Japanese/asian based Anime-Live Action adaptations…. and they're making sure the Fuck-up these Western based series just as bad as Hollywood fucks-up the Japanese/Asia based series… Why can't we just make and cast our respective cultures naturally?… Examples: Japan Making Death Note, Ruroni Kenshin, or Kimi ni Todoke with Japanese Actors in Japan, GOOD! America making Scott Pilgrim, Marvel & DC comic Movies, and stuff like Pacific Rim with Americans (Mixed ethnic groups, backgrounds, and culture, which does include various asian races...) in America… (or where ever the actual studio sets might be built, now and days often in Canada or UK) Basically YES< I'm Saying Hollywood would be able to make a WAY BETTER FMA movie than Japan :/ How can they see this ending well at all? Hopefully this 'Ryosuke Yamada' dips hit is practicing his English, cause the manga AND anime goes way out of its way to make all in-universe/show text in ENGLISH… but I'd be stupid for me to expect atleast that much detail from this movie huh :(

I think it's all in the settings. FMA and Attack on Titan, primarily set in what seems like fantasy Germany, should have a white cast. DBZ, having people with Asian sounding names, should have a mostly Asian cast. It's just weird seeing some teenage dirtbag type white guy being called Goku.

Edward is a caucasion shorty; where in Japan can they find such an actor unless they do this in Hollywood.

Ikr? It's like the Attack on Titan cast being Japanese despite being white in the manga. I can't get enough of the movie's Mikasa though. So cute. :)

What difference would that make the only good (still living and in business)Japanese Director is Takeshi Kitano and he wouldn't touch anything Anime related with a 10 foot pole.

It can be a good film as far as they take Riosuke and cut his right arm and a left leg to make him act better.

Think about Harry Potter: this may be the one that may not be difficult given the right studio and approach.

Potter was a book. So I really doubt it'll be good.
Aaand the cgi in these adaptations are shit.

The budget in harry potter was huge too.

And one more things, the character name is Edward Elric. Sounds pretty western to me and the actors name is Ryosuke Yamada... sooo yeah.
let's ignore the race completely and make it all japanese cast cause why the fuck not!

Doesn't sound like a right approach to me.
They could overwrite the whole story with their own but would it be FMA then?

    But hey easy fucking money!

Mushishi had a good live action adaption, and Gantz' live action was way better than the anime (though not better that the manga, naturally).

Not all of them are shit - just most of them.
