Viz Plans More Hollywood Live Action Anime Adaptations

Viz Media have revealed their plans to partner with Hollywood’s “United Talent Agency” in an effort to produce more live action adaptations of their anime and manga, an event that many have been concluding will be the desecration of yet more beloved franchises.

Hollywood has been known to produce anime adaptations of varying quality, and whether it be due to making unnecessary changes, poor costumes or downright unfaithfulness mention of “Hollywood anime adaptations” now strikes fear into the hearts of more than a few anime fans.

Not much else was revealed on the subject, in particular who the next victim will be…

United Talent Alliance has power in Hollywood. Power lies with various organizations, not just the studios. Big talent agencies represent stars, writers and directors, so if someone wants to make a film with a particular director or star, they will be forced to use other people from that agency. It's not about making good movies, it's about making the money up front. The stars and the agency always make money because they get paid no matter what.

This is why Adam Sandler keeps making flops. He has a long term development deal with Sony, so he can get projects made even if they suck. Sony is known for holding on to big name loosers no matter what.

Except Adam Sandler movies don't flop. His movies may suck, but most of them make a ton of money and that is all that matters in the industry.

That is an unfortunate fact. And the first argument producers will use to justify the crap heap they've made.

Well, it pains me to say it, but what this means is there's idiots out there who will go to a cinema and watch an Adam Sandler movie while eating $10 popcorn.

As a non-american: America really needs a civil war to thin the herd.

Have they seriously not learned by now?
Hollywood + anime = Shit movie
They will butcher it to no end to appeal to western audiences and they have no respect for anything related to the source material. All that matters to them is money, plain and simple.
    Case in point: Dragonball Evolution

Hollywood should do Bleach and put Michael Bay the helm, one of the hardest-to-fuck-up going on now. Lots of looking up, titties, slow mo and explosions.

And action-packed violence, Hollywood loves that shit.

This is due to the inherent over-the-top nature of manga/anime.

Of course, different media have different languages per se so translating one to another is always difficult. Doesn't help that most of the time live actions get a shitty team to save some money on the production, but you can find horrors in any media conversion, manga to anime, novels to anime, manga to novels, live action to manga, etc...

Mushishi was genuinely good. Gantz was about as good as the manga, which is to say: enjoyable if you don't take it too seriously, and certainly better than the PoS anime adaption.

Just because it's live action and started out as a manga doesn't mean it has to be shit.

These Hollywood films will be shitshows though. It was a miracle EoT was as not-awful as it was. Big name movie production companies never turn artistic successes into winning streaks because it's always about the money first. They'll always, always milk their viewers.

You lost me when you say "if you don't take it seriously" so all other adaptations are good so long as you "don't take it seriously" is that it?

Wild 7 is awesome. Although it didn't have an anime.
Sengoku Jietai had some pretty decent ones. Also no anime, but for people interested in the GATE concept it's basically a jap version of The Final Countdown movie, modern JSDF fighting in the warring states period.

Zipang is more like the jap version of The Final Countdown, the movie Timeline (or korean movie Heaven's Soldiers) is more likely Gate.

Japanese can't even make decent live-action movies in the first place. Complaining about their bad adaptions is kinda redundant.

This is because Japanese movies are low budget and they don't get actors but idols and stuff to do the acting, leading to terrible acting.

    Movie: Black Lagoon

    Director: Quentin Tarantino

Edge of Tomorrow gets better when you didn't read the source material. In fact, AFTER I read the source, I was angry that the source was so bad...

Yeah, when you can manipulate "time" save points AT FUCKING WILL it's logically impossible to fail... So stupid the ending was.

This I can agree with, Tom Cruise and his co star did very well with their roles and the story was almost perfectly grounded to the basic character development from the original source.

That's because Tom Cruise is a fucking god. I'll watch anything with him in it, no homo(but I would suck his dick).
