New FLCL Anime Announced

A new anime has been announced to be in the works for popular Toonami mainstay FLCL, bound to have western fans consumed by nostalgia but causing others to wonder if such a show will still have as large of an impact as the original did back in the day.

The announcement was made by none other than legendary anime block Toonami via their official Facebook page, also stating that they are lending Production I.G. a helping hand toward the anime’s creation.

Two seasons are apparently planned, ensuring quite a bit of content for what was a relatively short series and naturally causing some to wonder what exactly the new season will cover – no air date was revealed for the anime either.

Err that's a little harsh considering how well the original FLCL was dubbed. I'm more-so worried about the actual animation and story where-as the original FLCL was created to test Gainax's new animation software.

You know, I always felt that FLCL had a unique animation style, I just couldn't quite put my finger on it.

This was my first thought upon hearing about a new FLCL anime. It had fucking better have a soundtrack by The Pillows AT THE VERY LEAST.

    Comment by Anonymous

They actually noted on twitter that The Pillows will be doing the OST for the new seasons.

No. They said they were trying to get The Pillows. Nothing is finalized yet.

Do you know how to paraphrase correctly?

You should just watch it. It only has six episodes, so you can view the whole thing in a single sitting.

You might want to watch it a second or third time to make sense of what's going on though, as the show is fast-paced and doesn't explain anything outright.

Those were the guys that did Arise, weren't they?

Can't they just do something new?

Unless that's some next-level sarcasm which is undetectable by me, you've apparently not been in the anime scene long (or at least know nothing about Production I.G.'s history).

Titles that Production I.G. has been involved with:

Yup, they -totally- need to do something NEW...

They got plenty to work with considering they didn't even cover 1/8 of the manga.

Thing is it was an anime original title. Even if the there is a manga, it itself is derivative.

Wow another anime of FLCL. The story didn't even make sense the first time. Things are get even crazier now.

And with all you Fap-head here, this is going to be even worst.

The presentation is, and even then, not really

The random craziness is what made the anime. Without it it would have been just another generic anime.

Yeah, this ain't going to work.

Fooly Cooley is something you do with your hands, like this. You can't expect it to have the same impact that animating a manga scene had. It would be easier to summon Atomsk than to bring Trigger, Studio Khara, and Gainax back together to tell a story like only they can.

Toonami might as well announce a second season to Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt while they're at it. Heck, have them "lend a helping hand" with Evangelion 3.0+1.0=Holy fuck Anno get to work!!!!!!!

That pretty much sums up my whole feeling on the entire Trigger/Gainax situation.
The fact they're making TWO seasons?
I can hope for the best, but quite honestly, I'm expecting the same level of watchability as that fan made Star Trek Original series.

Yeah, can't say this is good news. I mean I'm pretty sure production IG had nothing to do with the original series and none of there anime in recent years have really been gainax like. Not to mention 2 seasons is a bit..

My mistake, I should've looked into it. I've just never seen anything IG led that feels even reminiscent of post diebusters gainax. They're a good studio and all but they're animation style just seems to epitomize what I'd call the exact stylistic opposite of flcl gainax. Rather than playing with the medium, using intentionally flashy colour and at times cartoonie style, they go more for a sorta sleet, highly detailed, consistent and realistic style. Not a bad thing by any means. They're just not what I think of when I think of flcl.

Yeah, they helped with production. Not directing. Not art direction. Not writing.

I'm pretty sure they at least have FLCL's original director, character designer and voice cast onboard for the sequels, so it's not like entirely different people are doing it.

Just watch it be shit. Nostalgiafags are the easiest group to pander to and will eat anything up and Cartoon Network knows this. And Production IG instead of Trigger (which is pretty much the new and improved Gainax) is a shitty move.

The series ended well and this is an unnecessary move story wise. But hey it's easy money.

If you're saying that Trigger's animation sucks based on Kill La Kill, you should know that the animation in KLK sucked ON PURPOSE -- no Quality Cabbage or Six Fingers Makie moments except for that one scene with Ryuuko throwing the chair, and the animation was consistent throughout with none of that "blow most of the animation budget on the first and final episodes and half-ass the rest of the series" nonsense.
