The Sugoi Japan Awards have determined the top 5 anime, light novels, manga and entertainment novels that should receive more foreign attention, the results likely being influenced overwhelmingly by popularity and unsurprisingly containing only modern titles.
2. Shirobako
3. Oregairu
2. Tokyo Ghoul
3. Haikyu!!
4. Twittering Birds Never Fly
1. Danmachi
2. Saenai Heroine no Sodate-kata
4. Overlord
5. Shimoseka
The top 5 entertainment novels:
1. The Empire of Corpses by Project Itoh and Toh Enjoe
2. Kaidantō (“Step Island”) by Yutaka Kōno
3. Alice Koroshi (“Killing Alice”) by Yasumi Kobayashi
4. Man-Gan (“Fulfilled Vow”) by Honobu Yonezawa
5. BEATLESS by Satoshi Hase
No Hibike! Euphonium!? Booo it’s easily the most underated kyo-ani shows
To be fair, the story is a bit niche. Keep in mind that popularity != quality.
all this stuff is pretty popular overseas afaik
its just that people just pirate all the anime, translated ln’s and manga
If the published translation is s♥♥t, the dvds don’t offer anything special, then no wonder it’s going around.
Don’t know about your country but at my place some manga is so badly translated, I can’t lay my eyes on it.
Translations everywhere are bad. Translators are taught at school to do it in a bad way. Like changing the Japanese name order and replacing cultural references. Rice balls become hamburgers.. ludicrous.
See Otakings rant against fansubbing. He wants everything that is bad about official translations.
Que?
Sucks for you, fam. 🙁
Overlord only in one of those lists 🙁
Yeah, Overlord is one of the best anime ever.
have u actually seen other animes? one of the best? in what ways? please elaborate.
I see what you are getting at but the protagonist is such a dull character. It’s refreshing to see an overpowered character as the protagonist however he doesn’t do much besides being super OP and helping NPCs. His monologues are just plain annoying and all he talks about are based off his experience from playing the game. That is the only link to him being stuck in the game, it really didn’t seem necessary for him to be stuck in the game as that doesn’t play much of a role in the whole anime.
I personally fancy the evenly matched fights between the good vs bad as wheres the thrill if an action anime doesn’t have it?
I currently know about nine thousand anime. Overlord is one of the best.
What makes it better than the rest is that the villains are likable. It’s not like you’re rooting for the protagonist and are led to hate the bad guys, which always sucks. In Overlord the bad guys are cool, too. Then the protagonist is absolutely overpowered which is awesome. I’m tired of evenly matched fights. Those get boring quickly. Especially if they take forever to conclude the obvious outcome: protagonist is gonna survive and evantually kicking everyones ass. Geez, wouldn’t it be cool to see the protagonist die within the first couple of episodes? Like TTGL, only with a surviving cast that can actually compensate for the death.
Only the LN is good, the anime is mediocre at best. Of course it’s only in the LN list.
overlord is so boring, why r u surprised?
Not sugoi in the least.
Project Itoh’s ‘Empire of Corpses’ movie was pretty legit and offered something different for a change.
“legit”.. you mean 100% cliché with a little boys love mixed in? That movie was such a waste of time.
And you’re a waste of space, you low-energy loser.
I’ll take that as a compliment. You should check out some good movies, though. Maybe you never saw one and thus mistakenly think bad movies are good.
I’d say that these have more than enough attention in the West already. How about something a bit more obscure or pride-worthy?
I don’t think you win a popularity contest by being “obscure”.
indeed
Yrah, but you know, saying MonMusu needs more popularity in the west when every single volume has topped the US sale charts is kinda… Retarded.
Really, it only shows their ignorance, not knowing what has already gone out of their islands and it’s working even better than there. It’s talking about novelties of western food that the japs should try and answering “mayonnaise”.
Obscure stuff doesn’t get obscure by being good. It gets there by being bad. But once it’s there the hipster come around and like it for being bad, telling everyone it is good, even though it isn’t.
>Obscure stuff doesn’t get obscure by being good. It gets there by being bad.
Or, or it lacks the aggressive marketing campaigns and tie-ins to every commercial product you’d find at your local Wal-Mart.
>Really good stuff needs no marketing.
Tell that to Disney, Pixar or Marvel Studios.
Really good stuff needs no marketing. You’re thinking of the average stuff that is kinda cool, but nobody knows about. Like Gallery Fake.
What Neku said. I know as otaku we feel offended or ostracized when our personal faves are left out. However, the purpose of this is to engage the widest demographic possible, then once people are engaged, maybe they’ll look into the more obscure series on their own accord.
