Rocket launchers should be able to penetrate the dragon pretty easy, and it should be more effective than using C4. Modern anti-tank weapons should be able to penetrate like 1000mm of steel armor.
Well not sure how strong the Dragonscale or bones are compared to steel, but we were told earlier in the series that the Dragonscales resembled "Tungsten"

That's always the problem with longlived races in fantasy or sci-fi. Elves everywhere should be far superior in anything they do to humans. Same with vulcans in star trek. These guys could have 80 years of experience on the job, but hey you are just lieutenant so listen to the 25 year old human commander.
Suicide mission or not, it just seems stupid for a race that live such long lives to be so incompetent. It's like in the hundreds of years of their lives they never ever had arranged a plan on how to not die like idiots to a dragon.
Note, trying to still attack it with swords is just being unhelpful to everyone.

I'm pretty disappointed in A-1 here. They just can't seem to capture the badassness that this series actually has very well. A little more blood and gore would have done this fight justice.

Any time there's potential for something big to happen, it gets shot down quickly.
Other countries plotting to kidnapping the characters potentially causing conflict between Japan and the other countries? Nope, Glorious Nippon outsmarts the foolish barbarians in the same episode.
Rory is about to get taken away thus showing potential for a interesting story arc which might show more insight on the Apostles and more back story on Rory? Nope... the great army of the Yamato displays their awesome power that even making the foolish western gods cower in fear.

the parts you are describing as boring have been very entertaining to me. why must there be difficult conflict and drama? even though I don't see how there's not. I mean the dragon killed 90% of the elf clan that came to fight it, isn't that enough drama? or is that not shown in the anime? but yea, another rather important person will die soon, and that surely will have interesting implications. no idea if it will be covered be the 2nd anime season though.
It looks like what he is talking about is how the show looks like it's only there to glorify the SDF.
For me, it makes for a more interesting story.
If all the characters are just going to be safe all the time, then things become too predictable. Obstacles they face become less meaningful since there's no risk involve. Which makes me think, what's the point in wasting time on writing an obstacle if you're just going to dismiss it within the next few minutes.
As for this dragon arc. If this arc serves more purpose than just to fix Tuka's daddy issues and saving a race which so far had no impact on the overall story. Then all right, but for now, I just don't see it.
But I'm getting off track here, my main problem with this anime so far is just in terms of plot, It's moving VERY slow. So far they've introduced scenarios that seem like it'll advance it, but just turns into something that just glorifies main character and his organization. Which honestly comes off as Mary Sueish.
But, If you enjoy it, I'll respect that. Not here to change opinions after all. Merely here because I want to know if something interesting happens so I can decide whether or not to abandon ship while sharing my own opinions to support any potential "why?"s to my question.
Actually, I've found out, "abandoning ship," has improved my own enjoyability for finding good series. Nothing more annoying than friends that keep harassing you, "it gets better later, trust me." If it doesn't grab you right off the bat, move on, time is precious.
