He did give a good reason for the renaming, to be fair. "Simulator" games will still have the reputation of being joke games even at 2019. A name change for a would-be serious game is, therefore, necessary.

Let's be honest. "Yandere Simulator" is a terrible, weeaboo-centric title. It sounds like less a game and more a "sandbox toolkit", and completely ignores anyone who doesn't recognize the term "yandere".
Lovesick sounds like an actual game title, and keeps a creepy double meaning when you consider it. It's a better choice for an actual game in nearly every respect.
