    It's true. Too bad this is the most ecchi thing we'll get out of the show, Kyoani loves doing ecchi in the first episode to get people watching...and then switching over to normal comedies.

    Honestly this stuff is all a gimmick. It only has a place as a one or two shot joke then I want to get to know the characters and find the character sexy for her personality as well as the body. We have enough hentais and eroge with the characters designed to be sex toys from the ground up, and every shape on them is a come-fuck-me shape, and they're left with not much personality so they can be repeatedly tentacled and we don't have anything invested in them. So with anime, if the ecchi doesn't have a purpose other than to trap the shallow fucks into potentially enjoying an actual story, so be it.

    To be fair, KyoAni are balancing things out. They've given females/gay guys two seasons of Free!, now they're giving Males/female KyoAni fans some T&A. Fairs fair right?

    Bigger budget means better animation. And I think KyoAni most likely has one of the biggest budgets in the business, you can't compare that to a budget of a hentai.

    It's been said before by people in the biz that Kyoto Animation has the same budget as most other companies, if not less.

    Budget doesn't have as much to do with it as planning and talent does.

    If you've ever wondered why some shows have much better animation in BR releases than what gets on air, it's because of bad planning, not bad budget.

    And if a show has bad animation on air and on BR - it's probably because they just straight up suck.

    Valkyire Drive kinda did not know what it wanted to be.
    Not nearly lewd enough when looking at the whole series to sell itself on "ecchi that is hentai without showing genitals" but also didn't have enough substance to work as a cool show with alot of ecchi.

    the first special of the bluray really wasn't that great either.

It is things that are very lewd or against the norm that is actually regarded as hentai.

    Damn straight, Highschool DxD was excellent because you have strong women with good-humoured reactions about their sexuality in situations where it doesn't feel like they're appealing to some audience without direction. Also simultaneously being self-aware, which makes for likable characters but also amusing scenes. And the MC, while typical in most reactions to sexuality, grows well over time and is thankfully perverted enough to enjoy himself while feebly trying to maintain honor in a situation where he's supposed to give in. Hence the dichotomy of saying how much he likes boobs, but never really acting on it.

    I think it's the show more than anything. Highschool DxD/To Love-ru/Monster Monsume did much better. Whatever these shows have, attracts fans. Valkyrie Drive/Triage X didn't.

    I think it's more of an oversaturation, too many shows try the same trick and people will usually choose the best ones of the bunch. Of course there are some people who will buy them all, but that's not going to be enough to make the sales...

    Kiss x Sis is an example of well-written ecchi, as well as well-animation within scene layouts and good direction. Kiss x Sis managed to do something I never expected. I knew it was fun, but it gave me a full body arousal with its playfully erotic sensual scenes. No hentai ever did that, Kiss x Sis isn't really fap material, but I was so turned on in a more heightened way but had no need or desire to fap to it, it was better than any porn could ever be.

    As far as I'm concerned they managed to pull off the feeling of real sex to the watcher. You want the other participant to feel pleasure so I found myself feeling like that was what I wanted, I wanted the characters to enjoy themselves throughout those scenes and when I realized it had done that to me, I now consider it one of the best series ever.

    It couldn't be oversaturation, there aren't that many ecchi shows.

    Valkyrie Drive definitely tried something new, or at least I've never seen anything with quite the same concept. It's just that it was weird and awkward. Even ecchi needs to be written in a way that's more fun than awkward if it's going to do well.

    I always felt that that Valkyrie Drive was about game sales. I've seen a couple of posts on this site about the pending release of a game.

    Personally, I felt that the naughty bits in the show got briefer and less interesting as the show went on... As though they were saying, you've already seen this so we're going to cut it short so you can have more drama. Combine that with an obnoxious villain and an infinite amount of top secret backstory and it stopped being fun. Non-serious shows that take themselves too seriously aren't enjoyable for me.
