Beware! Because our daily life is filled with generic things, it's just that you never see them as such. Try to be more observant instead of picking on something not to your liking.
But do we have the time to care about all of them, no? So what's your problem if there are people who enjoy this.
I still can't understand why those harem shows are so popular, not just in Japan, it looks like Haremshows getting popular everywhere. What is it? What's the big secret behind the success?
This one in particular was a mess. Kadokawa gave it the lion's share of the animation studio's resources, yet it flopped hard.
And of the battle harems last season, Asterisk is the one that gets second season.

I think it's pretty obvious. No matter how dumb they are, men enjoy watching attractive girls. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand basic human instinct.
I think any reasonably smart anime fan will just accept the fact that they only watch so they can fap later.
The shows itself aren't popular, they are "Late Night" anime and thus have low ratings either way but the mainstream buys cute anime girl figures/merch without even knowing the series, that's how the anime industry in Japan makes bank.
