after the firs episode umaru doma seemed like a friggin asshole to me. does it changes in the later episodes? because if it doesn't, i don't understand how she could be any appealing apart from her cuteness.i mean, she straight up abuses her brother emotionally and the gives a f*cken attitude. i don't think that's appealing in any way (and not even funny)
I can happily say that yes, it does change, because if it hadn't I would have dropped it. The "himouto" part is more like a running gag than the main focus of the show.
I don't have the same definition of "appealing" as whoever voted on this.
Umaru at number #1 is terrible. You get all of the slave labor that comes with BITCH-kirino, but none of the incest. At least BITCH-kirino would tease you and even bring over naked lolis and her virgin friends for you to ogle while getting hard. While I understand that Umaru is friends with one of the cutest country bumpkin I have ever seen and heard, onii-chan would have befriended her even without Umaru, probably even banged by now.
I don't care whether my previous post is down-voted or whatever but to call fictitious females as bitch or whatever derogatory term imaginable already say that much about the poster's personality. When guys fool around and toyed with females, I don't see really harsh remarks being used on them.

From one anon to another, gotta say I'm with you on this. There is appears to be a different standard for which women are judged. For example, there exists derogatory term for woman that likes yaoi (fujoshi). Lots of men like yuri and that's OK right? I've not known of any special term for that. I can sorta understand why the term fujoshi exists in Japan but why do people from the west want to tag it as fuck-joshi? Seems kinda of a double standard to me.

This show almost always performs well on DVD/BD in Japan. It makes me think that perhaps it has a mixed male/female fanbase. I've seen plenty of moe/fanservice shows sell like crap, where as this one seems to have that lasting appeal.

Yes, the weekly Oricon sales charts of Anime Blu Ray/DVDs in Japan. For example Valkyrie Drive Volume 1 sold a little under 2k first week on Blu Ray, which is terrible.
Gochuumon wa Usagi desu ka? Vol.1 sold 6,839 on Blu Ray for reference.

This list is not about the character being visual appealing but personality wise.
Hestia didn't have much in the way of involvement in the first season. It was more focused on Bell, that girl he likes, and the midget girl who assists him in dungeons.
She was the least interesting thing about her own show so the second the bubble first everyone but you forgot her.
