Another ranking has appeared regarding the tastes of western anime fans, revealing their favorite anime males, and demonstrating that protagonists are unsurprisingly regarded as the more interesting characters as they compose a majority of the list.

I've never really found appeal in Vash as much as everyone else, it was a good series, but I never felt the depth in it compared to the others on your list.
But yet again I have to say: why not both? Your list is great, as is the list above. So they're both good.
Kyon is a nice character, but he's basically a generic MC with no real distinctive trait. He's just a regular high-school kid. If whatever basis you have for determining characters that are great would include him, I can't help but question your other mentions as well.

Well, in Kyon's case I'd say read the light novels rather than seen the anime. The guy's pretty much a snark train there.
But yeah, he can appear to be a doormat to some people, I guess.

But isn't most of these characters from Shounen, over 18 is already Seinen which is rarely adapted into anime when compared to Shounen titles.

why people are ranting into this, this top is from one of the most popular anime websites. This is the result from 1 million users. This top makes more sense than the others that comes from Japan.
Not that bad, except Naruto and the SAO guy and Light Imagay are on the list. rest looks cool.
I would not expect Gintoki to be that high- or be on here at all. I'm glad, though. It's a great series.

Literally, every ranking ever shown here that somehow includes female characters are accompanied by said characters having close-to-nude pics, IF not nude, even though the ranking is hardly related to that. I normally don't complain about these lists, but seriously? No Spike Spiegel? Really?
The list is based on MAL favorite count (lolresearch) which doesn't normalize for sheer viewer numbers of a series, and will have a userbase skewed by the website lifespan.
Adjusting the data along, say, view count on a stream site or DVD sales or something would return a frequency value for "Often Considered Interesting" instead of this popularity contest.
If you really want to play with data, find a way to scale number weights using series season count, character appearance episodes, or even character airtime.
I'm not sure why people get so worked up about these fucking lists. They often have extremely limited sample sizes clearly biased towards younger generations and more recent anime. It's not a comprehensive survey of the history of anime, nor is it intended to be.
Old as shit, massively overrated, popular with people who don't like anime, not the anime kids who populate the shit site these numbers come from.

Internet has no memory. If an I.P. (in this case a manga or anime) didn't get a new release in last 10 years (at best), It's like It simply never existed. So that's why on all these polls, great characters like Alucard, Onizuka Sensei, Lupin, Spike, Vash The stampede, Ryoma nagare, Haruko Haruhara or Lain Iwakura are missing.
