Square Enix have seemingly not learned at all from their previous (and upcoming) releases in the Final Fantasy franchise, as the latest trailer for the Final Fantasy VII remake has been excoriating for apparently revealing the beloved classic has now taken the form of an action RPG – a choice that will likely have long-time fans converging on Square Enix HQ with flaming torches and pitchforks in hand.
The gameplay trailer that debuted at the PlayStation Experience 2015, featuring combat reminiscent of another Square Enix series, Kingdom Hearts:

Sadly if you want turn-based, you have to stick with Gust's Atelier style games. At least they never change. >_>;
Atelier games never change because they copy paste assets between games, like EA does with its Fifa etc games but with minor updates.
The next turn based final fantasy will be Bravely Default 2nd.
If you really want a good turn based RPG you could always pick up Divinity: Original Sin, it just recently came out for PS4 and XBone. Of course its a wrpg, so it has a distinct lack of cross dressing bishounen which might be a deal breaker for some.

Materia had the same "blank slate" problem that everybody criticized in FF8.
Active Time Battle is an absurd joke. It's garbage. At least FFX wasn't ATB based.

SE got this all wrong. Not remake, it is in fact a reboot. Remake should obtain mostly all the features of the original game. The change from turn based to action tells us that FF7 is now a reboot.

Remake is when you do the same thing aGAIN, using new methods new materials. Of course certain grade of changes is acceptable but if you change too much then becomes a completly new things.
A remake would be take the old game and make it again (from scratch, not using the old one and enhance it), with contemporary graphics. Like the FF games did for DS
