The arrival of Youkai Watch to the USA has subjected the children’s anime to a wealth of truly preposterous censorship, with the exposed midriffs of bikini-clad girls and entire upper bodies of muscular men apparently being regarded as corrupting to young vulnerable minds.

Kids see this kinda stuff at the beach all the time. So I fail to see the need for the censor.
Part of it is the censors being prudes, some of it is them playing it safe and trying to change anything that has even the SLIGHTEST chance of drawing parental complaints...
But most of it is apparently greed. Turns out that the censors get paid more depending on how much work they do, so they go out of their way to change as much as possible in order to get extra money.
