Battle academy anime Rakudai Kishi no Cavalry has resumed its thrilling tournament action, drawing little surprise from watchers as a newly acquired friend becomes a vicious foe, perhaps making up for its overuse of cliches with some decent fight sequences.

Im confused. Anime has been around since the 1960's or somewhere around that time. Is every anime considered a cliche since its already been used since then? If not then what are some examples on non-chiche anime?
Well...I wouldn't count this one as a cliche Anime. Though it starts like any other Anime of this type ("Magic-School Anime"), this one actually does something completely new to anime of this type at episode 4 already. I don't know if have already watched it or if you will, I won't say what happens to prevent spoilers.
chiche is one thing. overusage of it is another.
The definition of cliche is literally an idea that's overused...
other than shizuku backing away from the futile wincest end (at least show her nude damnit!) and having stella/MC confess to each other before the halfway point this is still very cliche for a LN anime.
overusing the overused anon, that's why we have two almost identical shows
Bokurano and Mouretsu Pirates. Just completely random off the top of my head.
Bokurano : Eva, Gantz...
Pirates : Harlock. Fuck, they even use it's opening as a passcode between pirates!
There's one big thing this anime is well known on cliche or overused, the looks of the male mc of course.
You mean an average jap's look?
This serie, Asterisk and Taimadou are shit.
"Cliche anime" sure watch episode 4 and already its got more momentum than Valkyrie Drive
this anime got the worst OP and ED songs, and ugh can't stand the ED animations
i actually like the op
Yep. it has a lot of that old 70's anime feeling... Quite nice.
