I love me some anime and am not afraid to admit anime chicks can be cute/sexy... but these otakus throwing birthday parties most likely alone in their bedroom for a fictional character just really are going too far.
I'm also all for the anime chicks. Hell, I'd say hentai encompasses well over 95% of everything I fap to, but even so, I always keep a grip on reality. Granted, some of these people might just be arranging stuff to post a picture on their blog or whatever. It's almost like fanart, only it involves photography. The ones who are seriously trying to feed cake to a body pillow, on the other hand.... yeah, they take things a bit too far.
