The ever growing popularity of established violinist Ayako Ishikawa has led to the famed musician at last releasing an album featuring many of her revered anime covers, garnering acclaim from fans and perhaps converting a few into classical music otaku as well…

The talented Ishikawa has apparently been a violinist since the age of four, traversing to different parts of the world in whilst building her skills and winning several international awards as a result – after retiring from the Eminence Symphony Orchestra, she took to posting covers for anime and games on her YouTube channel, a step up in stature if ever there were one.

Ishikawa’s rendition of Evangelion’s Cruel Angel Thesis:

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s “Ninjari Banban”:

To Aru Kagaku no Railgun’s “Only my Railgun”:

The album, entitled “Anime Classics”, can be pre-ordered now and will be available December 9th – and in celebration of her CD debut, Ishikawa will hold a concert at Ebisu Garden Hall in Tokyo on December 27th.

She really wears her heart on her sleeve here. When she feels like she could've hit something better, you can see it on her face. Likewise when she feels like she nailed the timing on key changes or got good contact during a riff.

For the most part, it looks pretty clear that she's enjoying herself and all that expression is damn charming.

This is a classical violin piece that is renowned for being very difficult to play. She has clearly mastered it. Her interpretation is unusual because she uses tempo changes and pauses that are not typical. Even for someone who doesn't agree with her choices, there is no denying that she is a world class talent.
