Square Enix: “We’ll Re-Release All Our Old Games!”

Square Enix have revealed that they intend to release updated versions of all their old stuff, sure to tug the heartstrings of those locked in a nostalgic stupor whilst avoiding the need for any expensive new titles, their recently revealed Final Fantasy 7 remake evidently being the flagship example of this innovative new strategy.
The excerpt from their annual report:
1. Revitalizing Existing IPs
We will revitalize some of our strong IPs in ways that meet the needs of the modern gaming market.
For example, we will take an IP developed for earlier generations of game consoles and recreate it for the latest consoles, while also proactively developing versions for play on smart devices.
In addition, we will also explore possibilities involving VR (virtual reality) and other new platforms.
We want our longtime fans to relish reliving past experiences with a freshness that only the latest in technology can provide, while at the same time have new customers enjoy the IP as though it were brand new.
By not only optimizing single pieces of IP for single platforms but also rolling out IP in a multi-dimensional manner to meet the needs of the modern market, we believe we can deliver exciting new experiences.
It has not been confirmed whether the games they plan to re-release will be full rehashes of their back catalog or merely HD-remasters with some spiffy new textures, though in either case it seems Square’s devotion toward creating smartphone games will not let up anytime soon…

Unfortunately, I think that'd add a little too much of the undesirable 3DPD qualities to our gravity-defying Tifa. Tanaka looks good sometimes in posed shots, but in motion and in certain positions... let's just say that gravity isn't always too kind to her. When she bends forward, they hang from her in the shape of giant scrotums or testicles.

I would drop good money if they could make the second half playable instead of the entire plot dished out as a narrated story.
I've replayed this game 3 or 4 times, but often get tired of the second half because you're not really "playing" it any more.

You don't realize what you are asking for. As much as I would like to see an updated Xenogears they will just F it up. They will go cheap in updating the character models and use high-res sprites instead of 3D models. They will probably edit/censor all the religious based elements, which are a ton, so as not to offend anyone in this overly PC atmosphere. They could really screw Xenogears up so easily. I say let Xenogears rest in peace.
If they do that you can always choose to not play it and forget it exists.
Meanwhile I have the option to play it :)

Admittedly I'd even like a re-release of FF12 for no other reason than they had to turn the audio quality to such shit so they could fit it on one disk. It didn't destroy the game, but it certainly affected the atmosphere.
FF12 was great because I was lucky enough to recognize about 1/4th of the way through that it was not a character driven story as FFs traditionally are, but a plot-driven story, and Vaan was the everyman drawn into it to give perspective to the player.
It was definitely different and caught people off guard... but admittedly I want more character moments to it so that they get to grow more as well. A remake could do that and still maintain the plot driven story like FF6 did.
And Fran BETTER keep that sexy-ass Icelandic accent. Anyone who didn't like it can go suck a bag of dicks.
And suddenly, aliens! Ok doesn't really matter if aliens are the enemy or some magical nightmare. But they could at least have tried not to do a diabolus ex machina in the last 1/4 of the game. The story had major(!) problems. The gameplay itself, character development, strategies etc. was the best of any FF game though (yes,yes, that depends on how much you like super slow turnbased systems...).
In terms of character development, FF12 was sadly one of the most shallow I would say. The characters were just great in that setting and worked well with their plot. FFXIII for example, regardless of feelings for it, had stronger character development (objectively it did, but the issue most people who complained have is they don't seem to have liked the characters, which is different) but less of a plot-driven story. Unless you count the trilogy as a whole in which case it really went into a pretty damn epic clusterfuck overall. I have no idea how I could still love it after it went soooo far from its starting lore, but they really did something amazing.
FF12's plot weaknesses were interesting, because they were noticeable, but strangely forgivable. The atmosphere kind of buffered the overall ridiculousness of the exponential craziness of the last 4th like you said. If they can expand on the character moments and give the characters their own 'quest threads' where they each get more focus as people, it will turn the game into something more amazing in all dimensions.
Ah, I shouldn't have said character development. I was referring to skills, moves etc. That board where you could unlock things. That was pretty well done especially when compared to the linearity that followed...
I absolutely *DEMAND* a full and complete remake of FF6 with the same level resources they are remaking FF7 with.

Before the entire internet starts quoting their most loved Squeenix titles, I think we should all wait and see how the FF7 remake goes.
That should serve as a decent foundation to determine whether Squeenix can handle remaking their own library, or if we should request/make clear to Squeenix that there are other developers than can handle the process better.

True. Its been ported to the PSX. But in exchange we gotta deal with load times before and after battels. seriously why?
then there was the GBA version, which they arranged the music for some reason.
I wouldnt mind another port to Vita or 3DS, or anything more recent.
Also side note: Id love a 3ds Port of Secret of Mana. I dont get why that hasnt been mentioned yet. That game hasnt been ported once. Even better of they release Seiken 3 for the US. that would be great.
